Re: the truth
What do sports have to do with any of this other than the joke graph in your first post Gary? Are you making the generalization that sports fans outside the US invariably turn to a God for help?

Sorry stardust, that's an atheist. The graph says athiest. It was a poor attempt at humour on my part.stardust wrote:Hmmm someone who does not subscribe to the principle of a transcendental relation of the individual consciousness.Ben Walker wrote:What's an athiest?
And...often very noisy fundamentalist that emphasize A in Atheist being against theists for the sake of it.
Gary - I really don't watch sports, don't even have a TV. Too much other interesting stuff in my life!

If I'm happily atheist during all the year, during Christmas there is a subtle hate feeling that adds on.
Last time i was followed by the police it was after a demonstration against the Vatican.
I've always studied for my exams, I would have never been able to do any exam on a subject that wasn't interesting for me.
I hate watching sports.
Truth is relative.

I am an atheist who doesn't like sports. It's trivial. I have enough meaningless things to do.
There are two types of people who watch NASCAR:
Fat drunk shirtless slobs with tattoos, and their husbands.

Re: the truth
Atheists still need to believe that there is a God to not believe in.
Otherwise, why even bother defining oneself as an atheist?

That's like saying that if you declare you don't believe in Santa Claus it means that you still need to believe in it. Frankly a bit poor.....siriusbliss wrote:Atheists still need to believe that there is a God to not believe in.

I have to remember once more that the definition of "Atheist" was first found in the text of criminal law of the Catholic church as a crime that was punished with the burning stake.
I don't believe in a bs. only if someone comes to me pretending that bs. is true. Otherwise I wouldn't even suspect that someone could have such an absurd fantasy. When not agreeing on somebody's point of view brings some nasty consequences like being killed or banned from a community here you have the definition of two political positions. I want to define atheist myself not because I have to demonstrate anything, I'm not pretending to impose an imaginary entity to anybody, but because I condemn the attitude of those who pretend to do so and want me to live the way they want.
The main difference between theists and atheists is that the first ones don't seem to be capable to accept the existence of the second ones because the doubt scares them, the second ones accept the differences as a good thing. Obviously they fight back impositions.

In order for there to be the word "atheist", there has to be people who think there is a god. I agree with atheists that there is no god until proven otherwise which is highly unlikely.

Re: the truth
Can someone make a graph of how many females say " Oh God " while having an Orgasm, and after so many months of sex with the same man finally start saying your name, then eventually getting to the point where during sex they say " we really should change the color of the paint " as they stare at the ceiling............

Alfonso, you're such a rebel...
in the Hogfather when the Auditors wish to have the Hogfather(a similar fictional character to Satan Claws) assasinated and it's remarked that he doesn't exist, the Auditor says "of course he exists! how else could you recognize his picture so quickly?".
