InterMetro Spectrasquad '08

Another one in the Intermetro series. This one is more along the "A Team" style superhero theme with heavy use of the VCR-1 (aka VHS-1) patch. Actually the theme is from an earlier song I wrote that I uploaded here a bunch of years ago. This one uses a slimmed down version of the arrangement, using samplitude's crappy brass patch which I couldn't botox enough to make it sound nice.

Using the VCR-1, I kept thinking it was very hard to use in a mix. There's drums, bass, brass, and string going through it, and since the whole submix is limited like hell through the VCR-1, whenever a part drops out, it makes all the other parts louder. And I was like, hell, that beats the purpose of mixing! But anyway, I wrangled and got it under control as much as possible. I can't say this is a good mix but oh well, I really wanted to use the VCR-1 sound so there's a tradeoff I guess.

I must say, tympanis and harps rock in this context. The bass is less melodious in this one. Much more "just blindly funked it" approach.

That ain't no Metro Ride......It's a frickin' soundtrack for a TV series.
It has many ideas, but from 1:00 to 2:06 it's a classic IMHO.
Mannix, Cannon, Hawaii Five-0, Starsky & Hutch, or even an old movie w/ Pam Grier as the black female saviour of mankind as she beats and arrests/kills the terrible drug dealers in Harlem.
It's awesome.
I would however, take out the VCR-1 and shop it.

You're on a creative roll and posting here will inspire many lurkers to get to work and quit hiding.
I hope to do some mixing but my head is polluted w/ commercialism from having to add songs everyweek that I hate w/ a passion.
That's the negative side of being a contractor.

That mix has so much high energy and potential.

ya, taking out vcr-1 would probably solve a lot of problems. I might take it out and just do a "good" mix. But I'd need to find better brass. A good thing about doing a proper mix is that it'll leave enough clarity for more brass / strings variations. I also think I need to go back and replace some of the melodies with some other instruments because the continuous brass+octave strings starts to get irritating.

I have replaced my Gigastudio horn sections w/ Chris Hein Horns 2.0. as they are incredibly well recorded and the playback features are extreme.
This means if you have a way to play Giga libraries I have some really decent stuff, it yours for the asking.
Do not get weird and try eliminating anything, as this is a great arrangement.
I hope to hear it re mixed soon. But the sounds and the arrangement are Top Shelf.
