my monitors fixed themselves!

Post by FrancisHarmany »

ok! so this one monitor speaker I had was refusing to power on.

Now a year later, suddenly, it works again. I've left it alone for a year and
discovered its working again =D

I had no more room on my work desk to put them, so I decided to try
some differnt arrangements of my speakers. I've read lots of stories on
how the speaker setup is is very important, sweet spots, etc. etc.

The speakers I currently use are 2 insanely large infinity (passive) studio
monitors. I have laid them down on my desk, bottoms facing eachother.
On top of the speakers I have no my pc screen and active monitor speakers:

[o]....................[o]
[O]...................[O] < active monitors
------------------------
[ o O ( )] [( ) O o ] < passive big infinities

I can switch between the big & small speakers! Am I in for any stereo/phase
troubles laying my infinities down with the bottoms almost touching ?

most of the stereo information is in the high end so you should be ok.
besides the positioning its not really the best setup, especially with the speakers on the table like that. the vibration of the woofer will spread through the table and act as a sounding board, and make it sound a bit crappy, as well as rattling stuff

Lying monitors on their sides is definitely a bad idea unless the speakers are designed to be placed that way. I don't know anything about those monitors you have, but most monitors are designed to be used vertically so that you're free to an extent to move from side to side, but not up & down. When you place them on their sides, all of a sudden your monitors perform fine while you're bobbing your head up & down, but not so good when you're moving around from side to side on your chair. Not a technical explanation, but that's the bottom line.
