Step Sequencer Ideas

Post by dawman »

I am quite lame w/ step sequencing, but have decades of experience on hardware sequencers.

I was hoping this scenario could work.

I use keyswitched sample libraries which means I can hit a lower note on an 88'r and have my trumpet section go from straight to swell, stacatto, shake, fall, or whatever articulation I need. I am hoping that these step sequencers could have a click out, and also be able to send out a note off and on command, but do it in a polyphonic way. That way I could have seperate horn sections doing the switching and keep both of my hands playing, using the sequencer to do the switching, since those keyswitches are notes on an 88 that have no sounds.

I have always needed a hardware sequencer for lights and the same trick I just mentioned, plus it changes your vocal FX live much more effciently than a sound man can.

Could I possibly use this a Scope sequencer and maybe sync it to pre recorded vocal tracks, etc.

I can handle all of the vocal effects by chains and a footswitch, so that's not the idea, but to do keyswitches and sync to VDAT somehow would be a dream. I have a simple metronome device for modular that works really well w/ VRC and VDAT.

This would be great because Mehdi's LBH and MiniSequencer seem to have many many options and steps. It's not a 16 or 32 step sequencer, but it rather advanced and seems like patterns are linkable which could do whole songs and such.

I believe that LBH has the capabilities. I am awaiting for Mehdi to polish it up a little for me.

Solaris will also have a noble stepper to use, and along w/ LFO'd Filters, Delays and note on / note off stuff, I might be able to lessen the load and enjoy a little more playing.

Hi Jimmy,
Unfortunately, concerning LBH, "sample playing" and "midi out" (of notes) is probably not gonna make it in the first release of LBH.
The fact is that both function work, but the timing far less good than the rest of the device (it is not in time, a bit flaky, sounds like it doesn't really work so well....): as one of the feature of LBH is its rock solid timing (it is bpm synched, and it stays in sync forever, whatever is the lenghth of the notes you play, timing doesn't drift away, and it has been tested with 256 measure long notes and during several days: it is in time always (unless pci buss is over loaded which causes the need to retrigger). So I don't want to begin to add all the experimental stuff that work 50% only.
But I am confident that we should see that a day or another (cross fingers...)
At least, it will allow to keep the device on lower cost at first, and it will give me the time to polish it up, and/or complete WS4 MK III. I would love to include the LBH step sequencers in Biosc if I had the time, or do your DX7 emulation upon which i have lots of docs already... . There are many projects over here (too many for 1 person probably, lol), but I think it is better to wait a little bit...
All the best
Mehdi

You are a GodSend Brotha' Man Mehdi. Count me in for the LBH, and the DX7 emulation, and the WKS 4 III. :D

I am happy w/ my Ice Pianos made w/ Modular / Flexor III, but really need a DX / TX 8 Operator something awful. The sound of my FM patch made w/ FM Operators and Flexor III's Aliasaw Gate w/ FM & PM modulaters caused me to ditch my Gigastudio FM Encyclopedia, and FM8. Gigastudio was to static but well sampled, and FM8 has that VSTi sound even though it is a good quality plug. The DSP sounds are exactly the same quality on my old DX7IIFD and TX816 rack.

My X's voice is very soulful, so I need the FM stuff for those Belly Ballads of Yore. I know I have turned into a cover guy lately but the sounds keep me interested amd the talented members love to rehearse as much as I do, so I shall be a pimp for a while and get FAT from the profits.

As Usual............................Mi Estas Ma Tondo Pinche Way. ( Mexican Slang for You're Killing Me ).
