Best Scope compressor plugin?

Post by sodiumcycle »

I find the Waves RenComp to be substantially better than the stock Creamware comp and am looking to buy a better and more colored compressor for Scope.

Does anyone here do non-electronic music production using DSP compressors? I'm trying to decide whether to get a UAD-1 or buy a Scope plugin. It seems I missed the upgrade deal and can't get the Mix n' Master pack with the Vinco (it's now >$900 U.S. full price)

If you have a 6 dsp card or 14 dsp card then you can buy the 4.5 Platform upgrade and get your choice of "Mix&Mastering" or "Synths&Samplers" for 198 Euro. 14 dsp gets both - http://www.sonic-core.net/shop/index.ph ... tform.html

Also ask Wolf to demo his Kompressor, it is one of my favorites aswell as DAS-2A for highquality clean sounds. Vinco for dirtier but character sounds.

Another one of these 'what's the best - X' questions? Honestly, this is practically like saying 'what's the best analogue hardware compressor?'. You'll get all sorts of opinions varying from experienced & knowledgeable or just subjectively selective to purely & utterly biased. Even replies from experienced & knowledgeable people in some cases might be completely biased (not naming any names here )

That said, it's worth mentioning that I'd definitely consider trying everything that's available for Scope. I'd say these are probably worth a look/listen, while seeming to be overlooked whenever these questions come up:-

Wolf's KomPressor (demo available, but only costs 49euro)
Sonic Timeworks' Compressor X & Mastering Compressor (demos available)
Orbitone's Impressor (demo available)
MCCY's MuBaCo (free) - check through the devices forum here on Z for his other free Compressors.
DADEV's Mastercomp (demo available)
D-Mute's D-Comp (free) - many Scope users love this one.
De-Vice's sLiM JiM & Level-Devil (demos available)
SpaceF's CompSat & CompSat-B (do a quick search on SpaceF's site)

There's also some compressors on Sonic Core's shop

cheers,
Mark

Thanks, I'll take a look at those.

Now that I have sufficient analog I/O I may mix through the Scope mixer and use outboard compression. Those FMR RNCs are really cheap.

Orbitone Impressor for transparency. It's a bit unfashionable these days but sometimes you want to hear the audio, not the compressor...
