I never really used a single Scope card except back in 2005 when I bought my first 6 DSP card.
I couldn't load many voices of Solaris so I starting upgrading, and of course never stopped.
But I have been rehersing lately and using a single 15 DSP Type II card w/ a Mixer and effects only, and one instance of VDAT that acts as a sequencer. It holds the relevant pre recorded drum tracks mastered w/ FX, and sends a seperate click out for areas wherever there is a little silence, for intros, and ritardandos, etc.
Using wireless 3 way Ear Monitors, a Bass Amp Modeller, a Guitar Amp Modeller, DAS Mixer, STM1632, and 32 Channels of ASIO via Bidule as a host w/ 3 x VSTi's and 2 x GVI's, 2 x AUX's w/ DSP Reverbs, and 6 x Modulation FX, I finally maxxed out the DSP Meter.
The 2 Channel FMR Mic Pre brings in the Bass and Guitar, and the 3 of us can jam w/o anyone hearing us. This is one hell of a little live set up already. XITE-1 will definately be needed, but I encourage anyone who wants to play live to use their cards and a Behringer controller and save having to have big consoles, Power Amps, hardware FX, etc.
2 x 15 DSP cards could do a fine job, leaving a great upgrade path for the Xite-1 rack. I must have it because of the custom mixers I will be using, and all of the synths and Modular patches necessary to pull off a larger set up.
The old saying that less is more is definately true in this case. I never really knew how powerful these cards could be for a small 4 piece group using limited synths.
The has to be the best written application I ever saw, considering it's a decade old !! Scope 5.0 is just a re-birth and a new beginning for these cards. They aren't going anywhere soon, except in another DAW somewhere.
The idea of having a hardware console for recording is still debatable, but having to have a PA system to perform live w/ racks of effects and hardware is definately unnecessary when these cards could be used.
