Scope is such inspired engineering, both hardware and software, it is the Stradivarius of computer music systems. I'm not optimistic about the longevity of SonicCore, given the way they treat developers, but even if they goes under, there will be people who will continue to develop for Scope - perhaps even more when SC is gone than now.

If you have Scope cards you should keep them. Treat them well, keep them cool in the computer, and they will provide the best, the most pristine sound for a very, very long time. Like the Strad, Scope will never become obsolete.

That's not really correct Gary since Scope is hardware & software. In a sense neither would exist as we know it without the other. I can think of a few examples which suggest this is the case, but I won't go into them all. Basically, I don't think Scope would need to communicate directly with midi devices, but rather through the OS & that communication channel already seems to be open (Scope midi driver).

If I could boot my computer with Scope as I do & route a usb midi channel to anywhere I want without using an app other than Scope for that purpose, then I'd surely be better off. Scope doesn't need a separate software midi patchbay as it already performs this task. It just needs to support all of the installed midi devices on a system. Please don't take these comments as moaning or whining though because I'm a very happy Scoper & think we have something that's practically unbeatable.

Hence why people jumped all over me for requesting a USB driver module so many years ago.

I see the distinction between a wav/asio/MIDI driver (OS based), and an external hardware driver. But we DO have an external soundcard module, so hmmmmmmmm......

the software part is only loading instructions to the dsps, which are external processors, and a visual representation of what is going on inside the dsps. no processing in Scope is done in the cpu's world, that why a driver is needed to connect to card, the os, and the app which runs inside the os. in any case, an additional program would be required. it would need to be patched the same as midiyoke, which is about as simple a solution possible.

a driver cannot connect to another driver directly. an app in the middle is required.

i'm not against the idea, it's just not very feasible. did the external soundcard module really work? as i understand it, it used directx, not very good for high-speed midi or audio...

You're probably about 95% correct there. :)

never tried it, never needed it, so don't know if it ever worked.
Probably some old threads somewhere discussing this module.

Ok Gary, i'm willing to accept that you accept the possibility.

I won't moan if it doesn't happen though.
