It is a 4 Osc S + S synth, accompanied by a Sample Pool containing the 128 original internal waveforms of the JD800 synth.

The pool is not a regular modular pool (find out why from the notes on my site) but a standalone pool provided by John Bowen of Zarg Music. This pool must be loaded into your project for the presets provided to work. The pool can be found on the downloads page at Modular Corner, as can the patch itself.

If any of you are unable to use this standalone pool, (I don't know if it will be usable by Elektra users) I've also uploaded the same pool in Modular format.

Either pool can be used with any other modular patch, or with any other sample based synth (eg Zarg Ambient, Rotor, Prophet Plus, Wavelength GeminiWave, etc).

Jaded800 is a BIG patch - 40 modules and probably no more than one voice on a Pulsar 1. For this reason I've also uploaded the Jaded400 - a cut down version which only uses 2 sample Oscs.

Jaded800 was made in v3.01 and uses the MultiFX module - all of the effects used in the presets are standard 3.01 effects - no ProPack or 3rd party effects.

Jaded800 is the product of a few months work and I'm very ahppy with the results. A full description, along with various sound examples can be found on the Jaded800 page on Modular Corner. Any feedback or additional presets gratefully received.

Enjoy,
Ben

** NB 17th March 2002 - File now uploaded to this page on PlanetZ as some people having problems with the download from my page **

I'm sorry but the Jaded800.zip is corrupted here. The other 3 zips work fine. Anyone else?
Corrupted as in the Zip won't open, or corrupted as in the mdl won't load?
I just tried downloading the file and it downloads and unzips fine.

Try redownloading, or let me know if you just want me to send you the zip file.

Mail me at b.walker@elsevier.co.uk within the next couple of hours and I'll get the file to you asap.

Ben

Hi Ben, when I tried to unzip the jd800-file, I got the message of a crc-mistake too (when using both, Norton Commander and WinZip). I've downloaded it one more time, the same message appeared. The sample pool seems also corrupted. Could you make anything?
Thanks, Thomas

Hi Ben ,I have to say thank you. The JD-800 is one of my favorit Synth´s I sold it years ago and became ill till then.
Now you gave me a little JD-800 Spirit back.

marvelous! musical! flexible!

i never rated anything, but this time beside one of the most useful and well organized patches i've ever seen and heard, i must also express my opinion on what does ben walker do for the growth of the most powerful research team in the modular synthesys, the great community of the free creators of pulsar modular!

i vote 10 for the patch,
10 for the hard and generous work
10 for the spirit of peace and collaboration that ben's work spreads among
us all!

thanks ben.

alfonso.

I had this mail from Nik:
I downloaded the jd800 emulator for modular2 but for some reason when I try and load it, it doesnt do anything? The sample pools appear fine if I drag them onto the workspace, but the actual main patch
doesnt? I`m trying to run it on v2.04 software, does this have something to do with it?
Is this how the incompatibility between v3 patches and pre v3 software manifests itself or is this a different problem?

ben.

yes, this is how it is. i'm curious though. as i can't load the standalone pool (custom), which it sounds this person could.

the pool for the modular loads for me, but the samples in it are all messed up sounding. they either sound like white noise, or variations on a short looped sample (buzzy), where zero crossings and crossfading were not observed.

i am not getting down on you as i know this isn't the way the samples ought to sound, just as a reference.

exporting the samples to wave files sounds the same.

its a translation problem only solved by upgrading to v3 software.

It loads, it works, it sounds awesome, and I highly appreciate your work! Extremely well done, Ben. Respect!
Funnily only the standalone pool works here, not the internal... hm. And it takes very, very long to change presets, not usable with MIDI program change which is really sad. Can it be that there are loads of controllers assigned in each preset? According to another thread I read here somewhere, this might be the reason...

Yes, there are actually loads (15) of controllers saved with each preset - I found programming the patch so much easier with a midi fader box than with constant mouse clicks. I didn't know that might be a cause of slow loading - I'd assumed it was just the size of the patch and the different effects loading in and out.
I'll try building a version without controllers and see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the kind words anyway!

The problem I am having is that the samples don't want to load.
"Cannot load 002syn..." is what I get in all the boxes.
What am I doing wrong?

Got it going now with the standalone samplepool. The sounds take forever to load but some of them are definitely worth the wait.

Great job, Ben!

Any one had any luck with this patch on a Mac? I had a mail to say that the Standalone pool doesn't work.
Can any other Mac user confirm or disprove this?
Thanks,
Ben

i can't seem to get the patch working on my mac (G3/450Mhz).
the modular patch loads (like it should?) but i can't see the sample pool in the pulsar file browser. i can see it in the pulsar devices bar (yellow one, top of page), but if i drag it into the pulsar environment, nothing happens.
if i drag the modular patch into the routing window, it loads fine, but there's no sound although the sample modules show a sample. if i change presets, the sample displays say 'cannot load sample...'

I experience the same, but I use the pool to manually load the samples requested by the preset. Easy, w these numbers, but still time eating.
