But the PCI-E slots are downward compatible from the specs.
So you can use 4x card in a 8x or 16x slot.
...but most consumer boards are equipped with pcie x16 (one or more) and pcie-x1 only (apart from old pci).

that would mean if they make the card > x1 and you have a gfx card with peg (pcie-x16) you'll need a board with at least 2 peg slots.
if it is a pcie-x1 card (that is my guess, but then, it's just a guess) most boards available currently will fit.
since an express card implies a single lane, and express card is said to be the other type of possible connection for a XITE, the pcie card is likely to be x1, too.

You can easily use all the bandwidth of single lane of PCIe with reverbs.

I second the yikes and may add: I bet on it that it will be a x1 pci-e card that Should be used in a x1 to x4 slot.I dont know if you can use it in a x16 slot but i guess its reserved for gfx only. :D

won't work.
I finally found what I was looking for:

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/tips0456.html

smaller cards in bigger slots are supported, but not the other way round. the cards are just keyed in a way they won't even fit mechanically. see also

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PCIExpress.jpg

a x4 card would have to have another notch to fit into a x1 slot.

Here's an idea: maybe XITE can plug into either a x1 card or a x4 card (if you need more bandwidth). Since we don't know anything about it yet, let's hope that's true. :)
