I was quite surprised when you said this too as I found the Hr824's to have stacks of bass (in a treated room).
But my ears always found the bottom end a little muddy in the hr824's and I blame the passive radiator design for this.
Their transient response can seem a tad muted, but imo most ported speakers in this pricerange either lack in low end in comparison (Adam A7's which are otherwise stellar) or have a lot of 'ring' from the ported frequency range, and horrible distortion in the suboctave due to increasingly poor cone control below the tuned frequency of the port. It's really a tradeoff either way until you get to about 2x the cost.
