Intel P35 Chipset

Post by dawman »

I thought I'd share this experiment.

I never could get much bandwidth out of the 865's or 965's but didn't really care as I have a boatload of hardware effects left over from my various hardware rigs.

I have decided to use Warp69's creations, since they are based on the Lexicon PCM91 which I use and know front to back.

Since I have upgraded to the P35 chipset I can load a ridiculous amount of time based effects.

This is great as I will sell my Spring 1U, and PCM81 while the prices are high still.

I currently tried the bleedover routings on SpaceF's ingenious AUX design by sending some of the PCM91's sound to the 3rd AUX where Celmo's Muli-Tap Reverb resides. The results were beautiful. Having the P100 and A100 will further extend the possibilities and incredible emulations we have for Scope. I only need to run a 1 or 2 instances of Warp's stuff, and 1 instance of Celmo's Stereo EchoReq 2.

With the FB5 AUX's and these effects I am sure when I run a QY700 to play back some tracks, I will be standing out in front of my powered cabinets and pat myself on the back.

Talk about a signature sound.

As a matter of fact I have. The showrooms here use have them in certain venues. Cirque du Soliel shows mostly.

I had no demo but rather an end result test where the Maxx Bass was A/B'd for me and it was impressive. But we can achieve the same results in Scope.

For example Celmo has some really nice stuff for that, and I use the Sub out on his X Channel and a Barbetta Sub cabinet, but only in bigger rooms.

You are going to like the P35.

I am only going to use a PCM91 now, instead of the PCM91,PCM81, Spring, Q20, and Oberheim EDP.

Thje more I delve into Scope, the more I realise that everything I need can be found by 3rd Party Developers, and stock effects.

If you find yourself in need of a special device, a call to DAS, Wolf, or SpaceF can usually create a solution.

Using 1 x Lexicon PCM91 and a couple of DSP based time effects gives me a studio quality sound live.

We can thanks the Intel P35 for that.

I got the Intel DP35DP......stable, boring but productive.

I would never sell the PCM91, just adding the A100 / P100, and Celmo's Stereo EchoReq 2.

The Warp69 stuff is modelled after the Lexicon, and since I have one already, I can use the A100 / P100 in a couple of AUX's. It would be like having 3 PCM91's.

The PCM81's are dropping in price on ebay to around 850-1000 USD. I have had my fun with it for years, and it is a quality unit that does many time based calculations. But the 91 is the real deal as it has a dual Lexi chip for creating anything you hear in your head as far as reverbs are concerned.

There are many good reverbs out there but the Lexicon PCM91 is a great learning tool, and the last of the PCM series prior to HK taking over and just using the name w/ Digitech chips.

It's like our beloved A16U. It is a great converter, there are more expensive better ones, but proper tools in the right hands are usually adequate, and the Lexicon is the best reverb around for it's price range and even above.
