In search of new Sequencer

Post by spoimala »

Some time ago I was using Cool Edit Pro as audio recorder, but when I entered the midi world and Pulsar stuff with sample accurate ASIO-drivers and the like, people said that Cool Edit is inferior for multi-tracking compared to decent asio-based recorders.

Now, after many years, I found that Cool Edit , now known as Adobe Audition, supports ASIO, MIDI and all. So, have you, fellow-Scopers tried it? Is it any good? At least it doesn't cost half the price of Cubase.

And speaking of Cubase, another option I've been thinking is Cubase Studio. And also, as I'm about to buy some Yamaha gear, do you have anything to say about Cubase AI? I've read all the info from Steinberg's site, but it isn't that much. Would AI4 be enough?

i have to say i'm leaning away from Cubase to perhaps Samplitude, but seeing as you can try it for free give Reaper a go too. The only thing i don't like is it doesn't have an in-built audio editor, but you can use free third party ones in it. Both these get regular updates compared to Cubase and customer support and forums are much nicer.

not sure how something like Audition compares to full blown sequencers like Cubase/Sonar/Samplitude.
Isn't Audition primarily and audio editor?

*edit* ok I see Audition seems to have moved more into the full-blown sequencer direction. I wonder how mature it is compared to something like Cubase.

btw if you're considering Cubase, I'd say yes the Studio version might very well be enough for the average musician and it's much cheaper than the full version.

MIDI and VST implementation in V10 is all there. Excellent.
Gotta see it to believe it. :)
