SFP 5 with Vista support

Post by spoimala »

I've been out for a while - well a year or so. So I'm sorry if this is old news but from what I see from the few newest messages "Creamware sucks", "Scope is dead" etc I think this is not old news.

I was in contact with SonicCore lately, and they said something about having SFP 5 under construction.. and that they hope to release it with Vista drivers on a few months.

Is it any good news?

(Damn, that PSY-Q sounds so good again)

So where have you been Brotha' Man Spoimala ?

Drop back in after Solaris's release, and let us know when the new hardware is coming, if there is any that is.

it is, again, an unofficial statement not confirmed by anyone from SC.
please keep that in mind.

I'd like to... but then reality knocks on my door and laughs about that win98 which still resides on my disk just for loading the never updated TripleDAT (not that I used that recently)...

I have done an entire re design of a DAW build based on this assumption.

Scope comes first.

Intel DP35DP / QX9650, 4GB's OCZ Flex XLC @ CL3 / Gigastudio 4 32bit XP

3 x Scope Professionals w/ Classic / Dual MIDI ADAT / ASE/EBU.

How's That FAT BASTARD sound?

PS. November 30th.................Sore Dick Deal for an AES / EBU 6DSP card, w/ some serious plugs.........Grease your hands!!......... :D

I really like to believe these rumors, and I hope they will come out coming months or coming year,
[edit] but seeing is believing, it's not the first time we hear these rumors. [/edit]Anyhow, in the meantime I'll be happy to entertain myself with my current scope setup :D

lastly I asked myself, what I would like to see more:

1) new support for the old hardware:
vista drivers, SFP5 with bug fixing and new high class stuff like new emulated hardware analog synth in the quality of creamwares sequels (Minimax, Pro-12 and Prodyssey) and maybe a SDK update with new atoms.....

2) new hardware with maybe less features than the old hadrware.

Serioulsy I would prefer the first option. Porting the old stuff to a new DSP board will take much time and money for soniccore. And at the end it will just be a more powerful copy of the old stuff.

I think with 3 scope pro boards you can pretty much be in synth and fx heaven already.

I just want more synth stuff.

Think about Mr. Piehl would model the internals of many more old legend hardware synths...
like ARP2600, Elka Synthex, Oberheim, ..... :)
So Soniccore would be the leader in modeling vintage hardware emulations.
(seriously I think they already are the leaders in that department)

I am just addicted to these careful modeled emulations with their fabulous sound....
After one year I m still stunned by the quality of these synths.

That would be heaven for me. :) :P

Maybe I am alone with that opinion.

As Mobos are getting more PCI-e slots and less PCI slots i would be happy to see some new cards with new Sharcs - maybe one new board = 2 or 3 old boards (not sure of the maths). i would be happy with the interface being very similar (i really like that it has its own look) with some general tidying up and optimaisation. Also some onboard RAM wouldn't go amiss in these days of cheap RAM for reverbs etc. Oh and improved STS  .

More synths? Must say i'm a bit maxed out at the moment. Maybe some other instruments miht be more interesting - electric pianos, maybe some quirky Russian synths, a Trautonium, and Electronic Sackbut, some microtonal capabilities in all or some instruments.

i would say maybe some more vintage effects would be useful (valve channel strips, EQs, tape echo units). i know we have very good ones in the third party realm, but i mean when people buy the core system they don't know about space f, RIP etc. and it would just seem more attractive to those that would probably get the UAD if they saw some 'name' devices.

Other than that just the knowledge that they are continuing development and future hardware compatibility would keep me happy - and i can't see why SonicCore would have bought anything if they were just going to sit on it.

Hi,

As an XTC update (vst2.3, STS and Modular working in XTC, bugs corrections) will be the only things for which I'll spend my money.

As an upgrade, maybe the vista driver?! Not even sure!

cheers

I hope "Scope 5" won't be like "Scope 4.0" and "Scope 4.5" which weren't updates at all, but new plugin packages that most people had already. But Vista drivers sounds promising....

Except that hardly anyone uses Vista!

Bug fixes and new plugins would be the best thing IMO.

Until there's officially shipping product the best thing to do is figure out how to keep Scope 4.x serviceable for you (I prefer external PC these days).

That's imo of course. Incidentally I've wondered why cubase users struggle so much with XTC's limited implementation when Steinberg has gone to such great lengths to simplify integrating 'external' gear as if it was inside the app. Seems to me that it would be much easier since XTC doesn't do offline bounce anyway (right?).

Nope... In cubase that is called device panel, in FL Studio that is dashboard and i know that Sonar does have something similar to cubase and almost every other serious host can do this. Then keep in mind that there is a lot of users that run some host side to side with SFP so there is no need for wasting time in this.

Though i understand your need...

p.s. external FX is already supported inside scope and with external master effect plugin you have more freedom then in cubase for example. I know cubase pretty well.
