Z-Link

Post by fraz »

Hi,

Just a quick question really, is the Z-Link connection on my Power Sampler the same as a firewire connection? - On the Sonic Core webpage it referred to this as a Creamware proprietory format based on firewire technology - Is it the same connection as firewire? - Or just similar?

Sorry if this comes across as a daft question but as I don't know this is why I'm asking... :D

Thanks in advance.

no it's not firewire, although it uses a firewire cable. connecting a firewire device could lead to major damage....

Thanks Garyb. So when I eventually get an A16u I use a fire wire cable to connect it...understood. Would a fire cable come with an A16u? :) - Currently got Fostex VC8 connected via ADAT. With A16u, 16 channles of 16bit go down Z-Link...one cable I mean? - I think this is it, just want to make sure.

yes, if you want to have all 16 channels in and out. if 8 is enough by now, it works with a single cable. can hook to a luna without the extension then.
ah yes, as said before: do not confuse with your firewire socket! just the plug (and probably the lower layer protocols) is/are the same.

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
