creamware synths with CME bitstream 3x

Post by ARCADIOS »

hi, today i bought CME bitstream3x controller.
seems very nice.
needs a few days thogh to make it work bith all aof my staf.

But first of all i need to make it work fine with creamware.

i have got a pulsar2 classic and a scope pro plus.
which means 2 midi ins, 2 midi outs, 2 midi throughs.
USB with creamware i suppose is not possible, unless via sequencer(maybe) which i do not like.

which is the best way you guys that have experience with bitstream3x.
Your advice is very important in order not to spend days and weeks trying and testting

THANKS

I'd have thought about that befor buying the CME... :-D
but I have a Korg microKONTROL, which btw offers usb ánd midi.
I route the usb through Cubase, works perfectly.
If you want zero latency free Scope synth playing, you need to convert the usb to midiby some convertor, and hook to the card's midi in.
You then need to switch Midi channel on the CME to address another synth :-)
So, if you're focused on live playing of Scope hook up to the card directly.
If you do sequencing as your basic workflow to make music route the usb through the sequencer, which works quite flexible :-)

Hi Arco,

I got one of these a few weeks back and it works fine. The guy who runs the company, Jerome, is extremely accesible by email and totally helpful with any questions or problems.

Make sure you have got and install:-

1 The latest USB driver.
2 The latest firmware.
3 The latest firmware installer.
4 The latest configuration software.

All available on the Waveidea site. Also get the various .pdf's for such things as Mackie control, etc, which are not in the manual.

I've got a bit sidetracked with configuring it into Scope as I just got the Wolf Mixer 16 and all the spacef stuff and have been going through all that and also planning a master control strategy for everything for the 3X and my BCF2000.

I got the 3X to work well with the standard scope mixers and synths. Then I got the spacef and Wolf mixers so I will reconfigure as I prefer them to the scope mixers now. Wolf's 16 Mixer does Mackie control. But I haven't got that going fully yet, no time.

Main thing, for me, is to get a plan on the go to control whatever it is you need. The 3X has 21 groups which can be selected as required for different tasks. Different channels can be configured for different groups. Or one can just switch channel from the hardware when you change group. Indeed, each individual control within a group can have a different midi channel configured. "User" mode is the best for use with scope. It's just a matter of getting stuck into the software configuration programme with much coffee.

The 3X is an extremely versitile little box. It took me some time to understand it's flexibility and power but I'm glad I bought it. The ability to use your own LCD strings for any control means any control's usage is displayed on the video LCD when the various controls are touched. Sending the control CC's can be disabled with "shift" if you don't want to change the onscreen parameters. So you always know what is what. The 3X has a host of real fun toys inside.

Just route the 3X into any scope device midi in and route device midi out back to the 3X to get the "hook" mode going on the 3X. Use the learn features on the scope device controls and save your midi controller presets for the device. Best to get a user configuration group or series of groups programmed first for whatever device it is you're working on. Then start assigning controls within scope. You could have, say, four groups dedicated soley to Solaris , or whatever, giving you about 250 available synth controls operated from the 3X.

The actual amount of templates for control is limitless. The 3X holds 21 groups within it's memory at one time. Each 21 groups is considered a "library". Libraries can be loaded into hardware as required.

I would consider the Bitstream to be a Jack Russell terrier type hunter. Compact, highly intelligent and small enough to enter the underground midi lair where the main pack cannot go in pursuit of the fox.

Not to be trifled with.

That dog doesn't have to hunt. It teaches hunting.
