Issue when moving Devices

Post by RX »

Hi,

In order to free up some space on my C: (due to a bad decision long time ago when partitioning :( ) I wanted to move my devices to another partition.

Did that, and updated the "Directories" settings in the live bar.

As far as the live bar is concerned - no problemo, it worked fine, I still get all my devices in there, as well as in the routing window.

However, the 1632 mixer (I think it's that one I use as standard - maybe not the best choice, advice is welcome :) ) does not see the plugins anymore when I try to assign an insert effect :(

Is this configured somewhere else ? Or is the implementation just broken ?

While I'm at it : the DevicesXTC, can that one be moved or not ?

Thanx !!!

- Inserts are saved as a reference with the whole path (eg, C:/Scope....). That's what makes it very hard to exchange presetsbetween 2 users with a different path (even a different blank space somewhere)

- You can load insert by right clicking (context menu) only if they are in the mono or stereo effect directory of your main scope install (eg C:\Scope\Devices\Effects\Mono or Stereo). If they are not there, no context menu: you can only drag and drop them from the Scope file browser.

- Solutions: normally when loading a project/presest and missing effects/devs, you should set the Scope Reference Resolver (it should pop up on each missing effects).
- Set the RefResolver to search in your new directories, and try again.

Thanx for the quick reply !!

I have set up the RefResolver to point to the new directories, but I was mostly looking for a solution for the right-click context menu issue...

I wasn't aware though that I could use the file browser - which isn't the nicest solution but at least it permits me to use inserts.

What would be the best mixer to use ? Will all mixers suffer this issue ? I was thinking of getting Wolf's new mixer to improve my workflow, it'd help if this issue didn't exist there.

well SpaceF (me) is also a maker of mixers, so...

But in your case the questions are:
- what is the point in moving devices/effects?
- if there's a point, then better to reinstall the whole scope in your new location (without desinstalling the previous one, which may be useful to temporarily keep a backup of your registry/key files.

- the context menu is a function of the insert slots and it cannot be easily changed by a developper. Changing it adds more problems than supposed to resolve and adds confusion (ie, bye bye "workflow"). Use only the main folder for all your scope devices and presets.
- Are you sure you can't move something else ? may be install Scope in your other disk(s)

I hadn't thought of installing my entire Scope install on the other disk... If that is a safe operation (I will zip the old install from C: for backup) then I guess that would be better.

Are there any reasons (e.g. performance) why using the C:-drive would be better than using another one ? Or is it the other way around, and am I more likely to get better performance if I'm not using the C:-drive for Scope ?

Feel free to plug your mixers :D And BTW you might want to add explicit prices on your Shop page - I think they are only mentioned once you get to ShareIt...

I had my scopes on various disks and never felt a difference in performance.
Nowadays it is on my C: but before it was on other disks/partitions.
It doesn't change anything I could notice.

Re: thanks for the mixers remarks. yes release is soon and I am installing a new shop page. Keep in touch.
