Mehdi's FAT BASTARD Mixer

Post by dawman »

I see that everybody's getting jazzed about the new mixer from ____________www.spacef-devices.com______________and his FAT-S inserts. I can no longer be silent of it's potential. Sorry Mehdi but this has to be shared, you might agree if you see a rise in sales. Maybe then SonicCore might hear what this really can do with a capable ( sick ) engineer behind the wheels.

Sorry the picture is too damn big, but this is after all a FAT BASTARD.

Let me start by saying that no other platform respects and utilises MIDI as well as Creamware. It still is the best available form of control, and this mixer certainly is an example of it's incredible potential. In this picture I have several devices from SDK Guys, Creamware, and Mehdi. I have the Prodyssey ( CW's finest ) going into 2 x mono channels. You can see the little blue buttons that light up when activated by manual, or MIDI which I prefer 4 control. The little known mono insert FX shown are of an extreme high quality, and I had this in mind when I asked MT to make this. Since this is a stereo synth, we will concentrate on a mono channel of it only for now. Each mono send gets routed to it's own Barbetta Sona 32C cabinet. So just think of the one send for now. As you see the FX scattered around, these are my choices out of the dozens he has given us in BBII. They are splendid, and can each be controlled by MIDI also. I have an all " French " controller where DAS, Celmo, and SpaceF devices are controlled in the same manner. Every button, knob and slider are used, and most are attached to his marvelous CC5, and CC8 which can move muliple parameters at any given moment. So picture this... one button push will turn on any effect or combination of effects for the desired results. Then the knobs and faders of the effects can again be controlled by anything on my controllers, as I have 2 x 88'ers, and still need to use the Kurzweil Ribbon Controller to add to the fray. This allows me to add some beautiful sound and motion to my synths. The Prodyssey for example using that great preset called Rich Pad, sounds like a giant morphing synth when I use this. O.K., that was just one channel, now add the second channel. Some of you are saying " this guy's crazy, the phasing cancellations alone will destroy the sound. But who said you had to play both channels audio at once? This is where the 3 LFO's device comes into play, which is you guessed it, MIDI controllable also. A slow sweep from channel to channel with your choice of waveforms and rate makes the dual mono channel theory spring to life, as one channel can be w/o effects, or both having effects with the presets slighty different giving a larger range of motion.

This is only one way of using this great mixer. The lower left corner is where the LFO's get used in a well designed GUI. one, two or three at once !!

Now also notice the FAT-S at the top of each channel. How do like this now? It took me 6 months so far to figure out the possibilities of this. There are presets, with sub presets and templates, etc. Channels, section, etc. Mehdi should have a statue of him somewhere 4 making this, and all of his great creations. These are not emulations but creations. Nothing in hardware can attain these results. I can hardly remember the math involved while I am playing. But nobody else sounds like me. I have widened the stereo field in such an extreme way for live performances. And when his CC8, and CC5's are all over my routing window, it gets a little complex. But if I were to record with this, I could really get some unique multi parameter control thanks to MIDI, and Mehdi. There's a slogan 4 ya',.....................MIDI and Mehdi !!

I gotta keep playing, but please, if you need to take one great synth preset and expand it to the ends of all time, try this. You should hear Bowens ProWave using this. It's WAV Oscillators are already in motion w. timbres changing and morphing, then add the dual channel / LFO sweeper shit. It simply turns into liquid.

Almost forgot, the AUX's are used for the stereo channels that fatten up Gigastudio. There I have DAS's DynaPara MIDI'd so I can change the mid / side / mix amounts while I play. I still want to stick a joystick up my ass to rub against my cabinets cause my hands and feet are all tied up with the FB5 !!

AUX I is where the Lexicon PCM81 is globally applied. When adding the AUX I amounts on the 2 mono channels in a sparingly way the ARP emu with all of it's glorious effects suddenly gets painted into righteousness.
