I was tortured recently by having to do a gig w/o my Barbettas and Pro 3t rotary cabinet.
This is what hppens when you play the lounges instead of showrooms. No stage monitors, and some security gaurd / FOH engineer ( sound cops as we call them ) setting up the sound check. My B2003 sucks w/o a rotary cabinet so I searched through the devices for help and found Celmos Leslie, and MCCY's Tube Pre Amp EQ.
Running 2 instances of B2003 and using 2 leslie emus I got it kind of close but the drive of real tubes and pre's was hurting.
I then remembered MCCY's Tube EQ and was amazed of it's drive quality. My virtual rotary sound sucks because the virtual rotary crossover point of the horn ( doppler effect ) was at a frequency I didn't think was even close to a Leslie or Pro 3t, so I juiced up the Tube EQ and made it quite enjoyable as it's pre amp EQ choices helped cover up the virtual crossover of the Leslie Emu on the B2003.
For those who don't enjoy a real rotary cabinet, this is a way to get a decent sounding B2003 w.o using one. I still don't care for the placement of the mic on the low end woofer of the Leslie emu, but this was a small personal taste which many won't be bothered by. I believe it was over done to make the rotary effect more noticable, like a preset synths reverb ( yyeeeecccchhh ) but with some tweaking I liked the sound much better. When I stepped out front during the sound check the Leslie and B2003 sounded quite realistic w/ the brake on, but the Leslie doppler effect still was hurting, so I added Celmos on one of the B2003 instances, and the doppler improved drastically.
I now have a virtual B3 w/o rotary that is very passable.
There is no other fake B3 out there that comes as close as this IMHO. And using SpaceF's CC5 on the drawbars on 2 different controllers is very hybrid indeed, but this was the first time I ever used an emu w/o a cabinet, and walked away somewhat satisfied.
