Oberheim Echoplex Pro

I just realised a few weeks ago I unloaded my last Line 6 Echo Pro, along with my reverse looping features. I am afraid that my quest for reverse looping in software ( live ) cannot be realised as I thought it could, so I was wondering if anyone has ever used the mighty Oberheim ( Gibson ) Echoplex Pro. It seems as though I tried one at the '95 NAMM show but was distracted by the OBM-x w/ 12 voices, and forgot if it could do reverse loops on the fly.

Anyone Know, I am Desperate To Get this capability Back.

EDP is probably the deepest looper out there. Do you have any specific needs? Electrix Repeaters with the new OS are pretty powerful.

The Electrix is cool but the interface could be a lot better, plus the build quality of the more recent units isn't amazing. You need to source a specific footpedal to have some of the best features available conveniently (undo for example). The timestretch sounds really really bad unfortunately.

I got an EH 2880 a while ago, it's nice but lacks some features that would be needed for live use (tap tempo for example). It's nice for the studio as it has USB and compactflash support as well as MIDI clock sync.

That is an awesome site for loopers. It looks as though the Oberheim, not surprisingly, will do several reverses in real time. The software seems to be a real boost also. The ability to store and recall is a great feature. I could even trigger a basic loop from the keyboard and embellish accordingly. EDP's are in abundance on ebay, usually 300-400 USD w/ the footswitch and software.

I should just add that apart from the fact that the EDP is hideously overpriced, I would never give money to Gibson, the redneck bastards that killed so many cool companies like Opcode etc.

That said, the hardware can definitely be improved. If you get a Repeater, consider getting the noise mod done {available on the east and west coasts, no less}.

It's already at v2 software My complaints with it really aren't associated with the OS, it's really some of the inherent flaws like the build quality, bad timestretch and cluttered interface.

Yep, there's no getting around the build, but the extended MIDI commands of the new OS opened up the Repeater pretty nicely for me with a Peavey PC1600x. I consider the noise to be a problem with the build, and that can be modded, at least =)

Those ancient Peavey controllers are as strong as ever. They went from a country western company to a damn good company all in one year way back when. My friend has his 1600 still, and after 6 nights a week for 15 years it works flawlessley. M Audio should pay attention to that.
