well, the english version of the pdf manual is lacking the chapter "Installation" which covers the A16U in detail. I posted at least the section concerning adat<->zlink conversion since my german manual has such a chapter
if you have an original printed manual (the lime green one) this chapter is available also in english.
I got both, so don't hesitate to ask
and yes, you can use a standard IEEE1394 cable (since there is no such thing as a special Z-Link cable
)

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Marcus,
Thanks for the reply.
I've got no manuals at all so I'm a bit in the dark
I presume the dip switches allow setting either -10dbv or +4dbu and that these can be set individually for each input/output?
Can in/out A be over Z-Link and B be over ADAT? Is there any advantage to either?
Can the unit be configured as a wordclock master and Scope slave to it? Is it a better wordclock master than my Scope Pro card?
Appreciate any help.

Can't seem to get my Scope to clock from the A16? I've got the A16 plugged into my Powersampler card via Z-Link.
I Select master and the sample rate via the A16 buttons - go to sample settings in Scope and click the slave button and select the Powersampler card - the sample indicator just stays blank?
Anyone assist.

with the dip switches you set the level of a group of ins or outs. there are 2 groups (A and B) containing 8 ins/outs. you can set the level individually for each group, be that inputs or outputs. thus they are labelled IN-A and IN-B as well as OUT-A and OUT-B.grappa wrote: I presume the dip switches allow setting either -10dbv or +4dbu and that these can be set individually for each input/output?
the OPT-A/B is not used and reserved for "future use"

the up position means "professional level" (+4dBu), the down position "consumer level" (-10dBv).
well, the unit can (according to the manual) be connected to one z-link port only, and the other half unit remains in adat mode. Can in/out A be over Z-Link and B be over ADAT? Is there any advantage to either?
it would make no sense to me to connect the A16U to the same card with different methods. use either z-link or adat. remember that adat means losing half of the channels when working at higher sample rates. if you just want to split the unit into 2 independent converters, you have imho no other choice but running one bank via zlink and the other via adat, since the unit mutes if not both z-link signals are phase-coherent (something they guarantee when connecting both cables to a bundle of cards connected via stdm).
