of course Hubird, but
1) i just mean that, when the P100 was launced we got a different sound which was due to (in part) the way it was developped... new atoms here. The DAS comp is diffrent from the SonciCore one too (i tested the 2A yesterday) obviously for the same reason ... But you are right, although i am a real fanatic of the P100/a100 (thanks Martin !) and even if i love my DAS RMX160, i find that the masterverb pro is also very good... SonicCore can afford high-end plugins for sure ! Just different sound, diffrent GUI and diffrent ways of building a plugin. I am not a developper, but i just trust my ears.... and i am looking for diffreent colours like when you chose a Drawmer or a Chandler preamp...
2) And, although that seems stupid
when you send a message to the developper and ask him about his work, you will definitly make the difference in terms of technical knowledge... We all know here that handlling SDK is something reachable for a host of people (not me
). But only few can get VERY GOOD plugins... Each time i have asked developpers more informations about their plugins, i have learnt more about the quality of the product (i have contacted CELMO, STW, DAS, John BOWEN since i am a soncicore addict) and the way the device should be used... But you are right, all developpers will tell you their plugins are the best... but the way they talk about their product is by far interesting. Just my humble opinion of course...

As mentionned in my reply, using or not SonicCore atoms has nothing to do with quality... but the way a plugin is built has consequences on the sound identity (not quality!) of course. i am not a devlopper (at all !) but i can ear the diffrence between 2 plugins and many of us are lookinf for diffrent tools ? I suppose taht's why some developpers create new atoms when building a device, right ?

But of course i am not a developper ; i am open minded and i am ready to listen to those who are used to atom issues... Am i wrong ? If i were a developper, and if atoms nature had no consecuences on the result, i would just stick to the SonicCore atoms...
the CW stock atoms are just very good.
I think if someone wants to build new atoms, that have a convincing sound/output, he has to be a good and skillfull DSP coder.
Many other selfmade atoms in the past seem to fail in terms of "good sound" and the recent examples of new plug-ins with selfmade atoms/scripts do not show up much better IMO.
my only wish to SonicCore in terms of an SDK update is to put more effort in different sounding filters and oscillators.
In that department Flexor has much more variation to choose from.
not saying that the CW filters sound bad, they all have the same flavour.

Thanks to all again...
well, I checked Hifiboom's site... so I heard the demos about using Vinco.
Unfortunately comparing files of original Urei 1176, Optimaster, and default Scope compressor are still missing.
They would have been useful for a complete evaluation (using audio demos).
The Ison eq has really a terrible interface indeed... literally just a fist in one eye
Howver for EQ I was just already oriented for the DAS Pulteq PRO emulation.
I love how it sounded, sperimenting with the demo.
The Transient Attack thing was really a curiosity to try, while already asking about Vinco free demo.
Not really interested (or need it) in Transient Designer.
I'd like to enhance drum and percussion attack impacts, not to soft them.
Probably because I have a rock/punk soul, even if I compose nu-ambient and electronic stuff, I like aggressiveness in certain sounds.
For the compressor subject, I got the demos of the new DAS ones: the DBX160 and LA-2A emulations... and got very good impression.
The DBX sounded aggressive enough.
What you think here about these two new DAS plugs?
I think I'll get these two, together the Pulteq,,,
so I can have the Scope version of two of the UAD's plugin I'm really interested.
Still missing the Urei 1176 though... not sure enough (with my ears) about the Vinco emulation.
All the best.

sorry these files were missing during the server crash...
thanks for the info.
I found the hardware urei sample and that standard CW standard comp one on my disc drive.
And uploaded them , so they should work right now.
I`m glad that someone uses the site for informing about plug-ins as this was the main purpose to give a bit of info.
no more or less
But I am missing the optimaster file. So that one seems to get lost.
At the moment I won`t find the time to make a new one.
cheers

Don't worry for that file.
Thanks in the meanwhile I will check later.
Your reviews were interesting for me.
The "problem" with Vinco is that is costing double comparing the DAS ones,
if not I would get it "blind eyes" together the other plugs I need.
Part of my budget is needed for getting a new Roland Fantom XR with or without an expansion card.

I assume you mean the x100 reverb seriesbill3107 wrote:any users of the STW compressors ? The reverbs were excellent .... But no idea about their comp...
which has nothing to do with their compressors - STW only distributed the reverbs for Warp69
the compressors were earlier, guessing from their Mastering Comp (the only one I have and which I consider excellent) they are most likely very good.
There may be some concerns with stereo applications, as back then it wasn't common knowledge that cross-dsp distribution causes a few samples delay, possibly they just overlooked it. At least some of their devices from that time have that 'problem', which is completely overestimated btw (imho).

you can switch between knobs and faders (see 'setup').Polarity wrote:1. Thanks to all again...

Not intending to be rude, but then I would check one of Das' other EQ's.
The Poltek offers the very same quality as the stock 4 band eq, but -indeed - adds a much better GUI (and a fifth band if I'm right).
Or wait for their new eq, just announced in another thread in this forum

Sorry mate, you don't know what you're talking about

I think it's right to say that the plug mostly is used to enlarge the attack...search for a recent thread that explaines the use of it very well

cheers.
vinco and das 2A
vinco is cool, and das 2a has that 'sound' (la2a?), .. i have uad, but i must admit das has overruled that as their algo's are just has good as uad at less than half the price. ...don't spend too much on computer comps, the real thing is better tho. , get a couple of good ones and you should be ok.
DAS compressors
I tried the DS demos.
Although I really liked the sound of both of them ,better than Vinco regarding sound quality, the compression did not work right !
No matter how big the ration was set there were always peaks on the output as opposed to any other compressor with high settings which acts as a kind of limiter.
I tries also comparing the Timeworks compressor which won overall for sound (DAS sounds better still) but compression seems to do what is supposed to.
I hope that someone could chime in and tell me that the DAS holds the peaks as compressors should but the meters show differently here...

Dimitrios

I agree 100% .. Firstly, I had planned to get good preamp including comp and EQs but i have changed my mind as we now have excellent EQs and comp available within SCOPE. The obvious reasons for me :
1) As we all know here it is possible - thanks to the DSPs (impossible with vst effects) - to use SCOPE plugins (Vinco, DAS, ...) as insert : EQs or Compressors. A friend of mine used Vinco as insert of his DBX386 like if the plug were an hardware stuff ; i did the same without any problem... just amazing ! The rooting window and DSPs offer something incredible : we can mix scope plugins with hardware (eg : preamp).
2) we can open several instances of the plugins which would cost a lot with hardware stuff..whether it is a comp or EQS...
When i get my preamp, i will try the DAS ones this time... For sure, we now have good tools for mixing which was initially the strength of UAD... I would'nt buy the Vinco at 199€ for sure but a scope 4.5 upgrade, bundles (mix n master package) can give access to this great plugin at a fair price. As for 3rd parties comp and EQS (Ison, DAS seem the best ones by now), all the users (i am part of them
) are very happy. Good price, excellent sound... SCOPE is still amazing in 2007 !!!!!!

Dear Olive I know that.
Please try it for yourself my kind of simple test.
Put threshold to the very maximum ratio to the maximum too, attack and release to the very minimum , the sounds gets ugly distorted because of the very fast release, (well that is somehow normal and don't reflect the quality of the compressor).
Use peak compression use meters showing output, instead of showing a steady 1-2 db difference in metering there is around the same headroom as at input !!
I am not psoting to make bad critics to your plugz I just try to convince myself that these compressors are ok to buy !
Please if this is a bug or something look at it .
I really appreciatte all your efforst in producing good plugins for scope !!

Dimitrios

hi dimitrios ,
if there is a bug (possible, but i don't think so) we will find it
but : what do you mean by threshold to the maximun ?
if you turn the treshold potentiometer to "full right" it means 0db ... so no compression,
the treshold pot works invert, i mean if you want to get a lower treshold, you need to turn it "left" (anticlockwise)
cheers

The above test was for the 160 DAS compressor.
Regarding the DASLA2 on the full opto setting and with compressor switch and using the same gain and peak reduction this is the most transparent compressor for full mixes I have ever heard !!!!!!!
