INSTALLATION PROBLEM continues...

Post by kyunghwee »

I finally got my PowerPulsar card back from SonicCore, install the card in the computer, run SFP 4.5 installer, then I get stuck at the point where you have to import keyset file. This was the reason for sending it for repair in the first place. Ralf has kindly regenerated and sent me an allkeys.skf for my hardware. But the software installation won't recognize my keys. I've tried installing the card in different PCI slots but the problem remains. :x :x :x
I do have another Creamware DSP card, the 4-DSP PulsarPlus card, and that card does not have any problem with the installation process or anything else for that matter.
Ralf tells me that the card tested okay at SonicCore when he tested it. I am completely dumbfounded by this problem and not sure what could possibly the cause and the remedy for this problem. Has anyone else encounter anything like this and know how you resolved it? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, btw, I'm running on Windows XP SP-2 on Intel Pentium 4 3GHz machine with ATi AIW 9600...not sure if that makes any difference since everything worked with the same setup in the past. :-?

One more thing, I've tried SFP installation with both PulsarPlus & PowerPulsar cards in place. When I do that, I only see hardware serial number for PulsarPlus in SFP registry window. It's as though my PowerPulsar card has turned into a SRB card just providing extra DSPs. Of course, when I try to install other plug-ins such as Dynatube, I get the 'copy protection violation error' since that is registered under PowerPulsar card hardware serial number.

contact ralf again and see if can issue a new sets of keys.

also are you able to test this card alone on another machine to see of you can install the software and to see if your keys get picked up.

check this on aother PC and if it does not work. Contact Ralf again for reservicing the card if new keys don't work

Well, I have asked for yet another allkeys file from Ralf. Meanwhile, I dragged out my old P3 500MHz machine to see if I can install SFP with the recently serviced DSP card. And I run into the exact same problem of getting stuck where the software installer asks for keys file. :x  :-? :(

I've always loved Pulsar/Scope but this issue is wearing down my patience. Hopefully I won't have to send the card back to Germany for service again since Ralf confirms that the card worked fine when he tested it. Maybe the next key file will be the remedy.... :-? :-? :-?

you could do the following:
install whatever Scope version you have with the Pulsar Plus and make it running.
then just plugin the other card and connect it with the stdm cable
the DSP Meter window should show both cards, the 4 DSP card before the Scope.
(as a DSP extender the card needs no registration at all)
the registry window from the 'Set' menu will either show only the card # of the Pulsar Plus - or both the Pulsar and the Scope card #s.
In the first case the serial # isn't accessible (for whatever reason), in the 2nd case it's an installation problem or a messed up key file - imho

good luck, Tom

First of all, thanks for all the help & suggestions. :)

I can install the software as long as I have my PulsarPlus card in my computer. The thing is I have all my plug-ins and other packages I've purchased from Creamware that are registered with PowerPulsar card that is refusing to work with me here. And yes, I can use PowerPulsar like a SRB card providing extra DSPs but I would like it to function as it should. And of course, not being able to use those plug-ins that I've paid for is very aggrevating! :x When I try to install those oxe files, I get the 'copyright violation' error.

Is SFP registry window, PowerPulsar does not even show...it's as though hardware serial number has been erased from PowerPulsar card.

And yes, card drivers install just fine.

that's what I suspected from your previous posts :(
it either is in fact erased (not necessarily in physical form - there may be just a single bit altered that marks access as invalid), or access to the 'read out' is blocked somehow.
Your PC is not likely to be the source, as you tried 2 different machines.
As long as the card doesn't show up in the registry window, any attempts to get it running are in vain imho.
On the other hand Ralf is a very reliable guy when comes to support questions.
He may have succeeded to re-initialise the card, but possibly the respective part is worn out (or became unreliable over the years)

cheers, Tom
