Interfacing Cubase/Pulsar with korg D-16

Post by hadoz »

Hey all, here's a scenario for you. I'm just wondering if what I'm trying to accomplish is actually a possibility.
I have a Korg D-16 with a 12 track song recorded on it. The drum track is a midi track that is basically an enhanced metronome where the "click" track is actually canned prefabricated midi drums that I have programmed measure per measure to conform to the needs of the song right down to actual drum fills when called for. This is all built into the D-16 and I can pick and choose various drumbeats from a list preprogrammed into the d-16 on a measure-per-measure basis. Well this tune is actually 40+ minutes long and not only has a tempo change but also several time signature changes that occur, i.e a few 2/2 measures, and a 7/4 measure to mention a few. Now I'm trying to transfer this recording track per track from the d-16 into cubase running on a creamware project board and was wondering how I can get cubase to recoginize the tempo and timesignature changes coming from the d-16. I assumed it would be transferrable in real time via midi but can't seem to get cubase to react to these changes and in fact seem to be restricted to setting the transport to fixed at a tempo of 75. When I select "track" in the transport window it defaults to 120 but doesn't pick up the setting of 75 from the d-16 when I begin recording. Nor does it react to the korg when it gets to a measure thats other than 4/4. It just records everything into a series of 4/4 bars and doesn't seem to be getting any information from the korg that a 2/2 measure just got sent to it. Is there any way to synch up these 2 devices to transfer this type of information in real time or am I stuck with programing cubase with the tempo and timesignature changes ahead of time? Thanks for any light you can shed on this!

Hi,
Welcomes to Planetz home!
Did you have the Cubase MIDI Clock as Slave and Korg D-16 MIDI clock as Master?
If not, you might try to set the above MIDI clock (Mas/Slv) then record it (Drum Track) again! Also check the MIDI (rec) filter as well!

Good luck,

Yes, the korg is set to be master and cubase slave. I will check the midi rec filters though. Thanks!
