Creamware A8 and Pulsar I problems [please help]
I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a problem I’m having. I have had a pulsar 1 for about a year now and I just scored an A8 on eBay and finally got the thing home and connected everything up. I can’t get any sound to come through the A8 into the pulsar. I have the four outputs from my nord modular plugged into the inputs on the A8. I was forced to buy the ‘monster cable’ ADAT cables since that was all guitar center had that were longer than 6 feet. Here is possibly where the problem lies; the connectors on the end of the cables are too wide to be plugged in next to each other on the back of the pulsar. So I plugged the input from the A8 into the top ADAT input of the pulsar [above the dongle] and the output from the A8 into the lower ADAT output of the pulsar [below the dongle]. I am not sure if these need to be going into the same pair of the input/output connectors. This may not even be the problem, I am unsure. Do you possibly have any other suggestions or ideas I could try?
checked master/slave (i have pulsar as master, A8 as slave)? and what about sample rate? do they match?
if you squeeze hard enough, you'll get the cables in alright, be carefull though
i don't know what a 'monster cable' is, but my lightpipe connectors are maybe one millimeter (don't know what that is in inches) to wide. maybe filing a bit of the cap might be better than forcing the board, as subhuman said somewhere else, but that's not very pro, is it?

hi and thanks for the quick reply.
I do have the pulsar set to master and the A8 is set to optical, which i believe means it acting as a slave. the sample rate is set to 44.1 on both the A8 and the pulsar. just to test the whole setup i have not even tried using logic yet. I built a project with with the Pulsar ADAT source plugged directly into the bigmixer and the mix out to the analog dest.
there is no sound at all. I am not getting any status on any of the channels of the A8. I have a steady red light on the 44.1 led and the optical led.

a few more things, the cables are securely seated as far as I can tell[they clicked when pushed in], but the input for ADAT1 and the output for ADAT2 are being used until I can find >6ft cables with smaller connectors.
I am using a dual 450 PIII 1GB memory, winXP, pular v3.01b, logic audio platinum 4.81. analog dest is going to my monitors. no SPDIF is being used. midi in and out to my nord mod.
thanks...

OK, i got new cables [hosa] and now I am able to get audio into the pulsar environment. at least I know all the gear is operational now. [time to leave positive feedback for dude on eBay]
next question when i fire up logic I have full communications with the nord via midi[through pulsar midi connections] but now I am not getting any audio signal into logic.
Do i need to build a project in the pulsar to route everything or can I just let logic use the ASIO driver and route everything natively?

just let your system make the music
i think you need to check your manuals first
. pulsar just doesn't connect things by itself. if it did, lots of us would be complaining it is not the right connection made as default. maybe i misunderstood your situation, but i think you have to route the ADAT source (A8) to asio destination, with everything you want in between. should work, or is your problem more complex?
