I use USB / MIDI controllers w/o those hideous wall-warts 4 power. This gives me PCI speed MIDI, and the controllers are powered by the USB links.
Occasionally when I leave the stage and come back to the rig, the first thing I do is check the MIDI Monitor module and hit some notes. I often would leave my rig on as a ritual I guess, 4 that's what I've always done. But I would cone back to find no sound. So I would re-boot the DAW in question thinking that Scope needed it. I just read an article on static electricity and how low powered protocols like MIDI and USB can be affected, i.e. temporarily losing transmission. I just proved that fact by leaving my DAW to take S4L junior to the airport. I came back and noticed I forgot to power down the racks, so I went to the controllers and noticed, rather heard a little static discharge from walking on the carpet I guess, and played the keys but there again no MIDI in the MM module being displayed. I remembered the article I read and did what it said to do. Remove the USB cable from the DAW's input, and simply plug it back in. Viola,..everything's fine. I have been powering down my DAW's forever thinking it was Scope being finicky, it's the static electricity that overpowers MIDI and USB, causing them to not transmit till I disconnected / reconnected them. So next time you get the USB / MIDI Blues, try this, as powering down DAW's is the wrong way to get a connection back, and it takes too long.
Strength And Honor,
MIDI / USB Connections & Static Electricity
my Elektron MachineDrum suffers extremely from static electricity, up to freezes and flash rom re-installs, deleting all memory.
But only when I'm in touch with the laminat floor in my studio...
I tried two other studios!
I did this test.
I put a been-left bret of laminat into my showering cell on a tiled floor, installed the MD together with my small Mackie 12/2 mixer, and yes, the problems were immediately back.
But only on that brett, with shoes at my feet...
My Elektron Monomachine (btw. the best buy of my life, same for my MD) is connected the same way as the MD, via two Luna boxes, and acts completely normal, so it's not me or my studio.
Tomorrow I expect another copy, I hope it's not a design fault of the MD.
Anyway, it shows the effect that static electricity can have.
thanks for your usb tip
Question, you use Cubase SX4 if I'm right.
When I pull the usb plug off or de-power my Korg USB microKontroll while Cubase is active, Cubase stops immediately, and I have to restart Cubase (OSX friendly asks 'restart Cubase?', so it's only time that I'm loosing.
Loosing a port while active is something Cubase seems not to be able to handle.

In Scope, if i install a USB Flash stick that's under 2GB's into any of the USB ports, SFP will need a re-start.
I have no idea why the larger sized sticks are accepted.
But MIDI was buggy when it first came out, and the same goes 4 USB IMHO.
One more tip 4 paranoid schizopheniacs like me. Gaurd your dongles w/ your life. I am personally going to put those suckers inside the case, via special adapter w/ an inverted harness. I learned of this trick from a key tech who got fired and got revenge by taking 8 dongles from their DAW's on his way out. Talk about being screwed. These cheap little peices of plastic can be your Achilles Heel !! Beware !!
This Is Still A Great Rig To Set-Up And Play, No Problem Is Too Big.

I ordered directly from Sweden tho.
I've bad luck, my copy machine that arrived today suffers from the same problem, tho less intense.
It looks like I have to change my floor covering in my studio part of the room.
Wasn't there some synthetic looking-through covering used on offices for wheelchairs?
Elektron also will be disappointed, as it now really looks like a design fault (that is uncovered just in specific circumstances).
There are some more reports known to me.
The Monomachine -identical design and looks- does it fine, so it's not me/my studio.
Don't wanne miss the machinedrum tho, the classic runninglight step programming method is absolutely fantastic, and everything else on it is pure class and character.
Not sure if the MD and MnM would be interesting for you Jimmy, at least for your live shows I don't think so.
cheers.

I was thinking of the girls actually. The Electron I looked @ had a sequencer section to the left of the Keyboard. Almost as if it were designed to be used by two smokin' Ho's. They are wanting to slack on the dancing a little more and display their talents more. Which is wise if you do 3 shows a night, 6 days a week. Hell, you'll never see any of the stars doing that many consecutive engagements.
I Shall Investigate Further,
I Shall Investigate Further,
You saw the Monomachine keyboard version, I have the brick stone without.
The Machinedrum as well as the Monomachine have a great sequencer built in, pattern based classic style, works fast and souple.
The keyboard Monomachine version is released as a in numbers restricted edition.
The knobs are perfect to play live on it indeed, but I don't see what those two Ho's have to do with it...
I assume you are talking about the girls that are almost naked, have enormous tits yet are extremely intelligent, and can dance while turning the knobs??
Anyway, I know you don't take the presets on your gear for granted, you work hard on your sound (and skills, for that matter), and you also gonne walk away soon with the Modular and new Flexor if I'm right.
Elektron gear also is not meant to play away with in the first place, like with the Rolands or Yamahas, but I'm sure you can create every sound you want.
Both machines offer 5 main 'machines' (sound generating algorhytms), each with it's dedicated parameters.
Some are derived from the classic machines like the TR909, other act as FM, etc.
So you have acces to totally different sound structures, and you won't miss anything.
And above all, it's hands-on, that's the main reason I bought this stuff.
I'm sure they will be real classics in the future.
Still, I'm not sure if you would profit so much from them, tho I bet you would love screwing them in your free time!
(no tits included tho).

Baloney,
Chi-Chi's are part of the main course. I really miss being on big stages where they can afford all sorts of fine trim. I use to cross paths w/ 38 Special back in the day, and they had 2 smokin' Cajun gals, they even had their own Tour Bus !! Granted, they were only " Back Up Vocalists " we were not interested in their voices.
This keyboard if purchased, would sit on a stand facing the drums, so the girls would be forced ( stop please ) to point their asses @ the audience. I know I am a letcherous bastard, but I have made some serious cash w/ this production. So I am quite confident when I suggest things to them, they never cower, but rather add their ideas as well. The end result is a room full of feverish scoundrels, who are paying big time 4 the drinks @ the club. This ensures the casino, or club owner pays 1500 USD per night, but they rake in the door money, everybody's happy, and that my friend is sho' biz in Vegas.
Can you picture them,........................damn !!
They will be adding a Mahavishnu sequence as an opener, doing Thai style ( Hoey version ) dance steps. The Choreographer is incredibly talented, I can't wait. I don't have Six-String on that DAW, but have a great 12-String Acoustic that gets a heavy phase ( Celmo ) added 4 deep hypnotics. Way Cool.
Almost Forgot The New Tip,...........................................................................................
Hang a damp rag on your rack. It serves 2 purposes actually, first to keep the Jaeger off your keys, and second to wipe your hands to change the static charge from positive, to negative. Works like a charm.
One more tip,.............Don't smoke in bed.
