SCOPE Fusion Platform installer doesn't run..

Just got a Luna II today, popped in the install CD, ran setup.exe. I see a Window appear in my taskbar for the "SCOPE Fusion Platform Installer", but I can't maximize it. Nothing happens. I try downloading the latest install from the Creamware site, again, nothing. This is with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Core 2 Duo processor, plenty of RAM etc. The card is already installed and Windows found the drivers fine.

What's the deal???

I had this problem recently after a sudden reboot when I tried to run at a higher samplerate. Scope started having weird issues while running, then I discovered that the Installer wouldn't run either. I started suspecting all sorts of things. It turned out that my software firewall was causing issues in letting 16bit code execute. I hadn't noticed it previously since I usually close it to do 'real' work but since I was just rebooting frequently & troubleshooting I wasn't bothering to close it. To make matters worse the 'problem' started during the middle of the month with an 'automated' update that the firewall software did itself, a newly introduced bug that came in with a patch in the middle of the night. I realized after tracking down the source of the problem it had been causing issues on all of my other machines here (they all ran the same software firewall) but it wasn't critical enough to cause me to spend the time to track it down.

I share all of this to illustrate that such things are not always immediately obvious and can take some time to track down. Also, using disk imaging software helped me rip apart my windows installs to find the bit of offending code that had been installed without fear of losing anything (since I could just restore my image back to the previous state when done & repeat ad nauseum.)

I've tried it with the firewall off... doesn't work.

I wasn't suggesting it was the firewall, sorry (unless you happen to run Kerio Personal Firewall). I was suggesting that there's something causing a conflict somewhere and preventing execution. The path to figuring that out is going to require troubleshooting.

Sorry, I'm an idiot. I run a dual monitor setup and I turn the second one off because day-to-day operations don't use it (I only use it for music apps). The installer apparently was opening on the second monitor. lol

I'll have some more questions soon though, trying to get the card to play nice w/ my Firebox and FLStudio.

So the conflict preventing installation was....

Can't even begin to enumerate the number of times that I've been guilty of User Error myself.

nice one. this kind of error was (until now) known to me as pebkac...

(problem exists between keyboard and chair)

p.s. but an installer window opening on another monitor is kinda evil, and a reason to get some more grey hair, indeed....

and the evil could go even further and complain about an already running installer, just when you decide that your doubleclick might not have succeded and re-doubleclick it...

(although such confirmation might have been an eye-opener...)

I just discovered that there is a way to get the second monitor back on charge of computer A if it was KVM-switched to computer B before starting A.
Instead of a boring restart of A you can put this one to sleep mode (on mac press the start butten shortly), en then bring it back to life again.
