Why negative anyway on looks?
Aren't we born to make the world beauty?
Moreover, I don't see any conflict between functionality and beauty, on the contrary even.
Vista will look great, it's getting a nice copy of OSX, so no worries
(your turn Stardust! ).
tsol wrote:in actual stance of things , as described above. Is it safe and stable running Scope 4.5 & Cubase 4 in winxp mode on vista?
how about all the others VSTi's ?
I am running Scope 4.5 on Cubase SX3 and it isn't stable enough for professional use. Cubase will randomly crash or stop responding. I tried Cubase SX3 with my other soundcard X-Fi and that runs perfect if somewhat limited to poor synths and response.
I am not sure how I will cope with Cubase 4 with its optimized engine and an update for Vista 32 bit, I am on the verge of buying it, but dont particularly want to waste alot of money for the same unstability I get from SX3.
better to get a oem version of xp home(about $90).....
that will be stable and professional. you'll also get a lot better performance because xp is not nearly as big a resource hog as vista. save money, more performance, less trouble. do you want the latest os or a great DAW?
wait about 6 months for the vista drivers if you must use vista(and cross your fingers).

What I had in mind was to use Virtual PC with my previous XP copy, since it was a retail key and was previously installed on my machine, it should be fine.
As far as computer resources, I should have more than enough with the current setup to run vista and virtual machine with XP, although I have no idea how stability and performance will actually be in such an unconventional setup. If it comes to be as bad as it is now, and like you prediction of at least 6 months for a vista driver if we are lucky, then I will ultimatly rebiuld a machine out of old computer parts I had before the major upgrade in the late part of last year.

you won't be able to access your scope hardware within your vm, since this hardware would have to be emulated. there were some threads concerning this, and at least those I read came to the conclusion that it will remain a dream.

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks for warning me, saved me time in a lost cause.
Interesting,
I just made a boot partition and installed Vista. Installed SFP and Sonar 6.2 no problem.
Seems to be working just fine here. Vista is a bit heavier on ram requirements. Seems to be running a few more proccesses than XP which undoubtedly causes ram consumption. I am seeing about a 120MB increase in Ram over XP with the full AERO . Not a huge deal, but a consideration none the less. Anyone using software samplers always has way more than 1 GB installed anyways

it's a tempting idea, indeed. better get yourself some real hardware and dedicate it to scope. the xp license is not wasted, and you will save time and enable yourself to experience both: the "wow" (as it is called this time ) and scope.

Well a 6 hr mix session and it only blue screened twice
Once actually a faulty NI plug attemting to run in standalone crashed, locked the drivers and then BSOD. Not really Scopes fault.
Second time I was mixing an external synth to an audio track and as the transport was rolling, for about 30 secs of recording, it just stopped recording anything. The transport continued to roll though.
When I stopped the transport, the sequencer frooze and then BSOD. I have since changed to a different flavor of ASIO and have not been able to repro.
All in all it actually is pretty good. More of a beta driver though when compared to Scope in XP. This really won't take much massaging to have a solid Vista driver, for 32 bit anyways.

Keep in mind, the ONLY reason it is this close is because CW had to do nothing
Hopefully a proper driver by musikmesse at the end of March.
I dont really know how it works with any company with support information, ie Creamware or Nvidia or any hardware company.
But I would of have thought that these companies only keep secret future product releases. If creamware are indeed are aiming to release a driver for Vista OS, why wait until an annual event like NAMM or Musikmesse?
At least they could acknowledge officially on their site that Vista driver will be done.
Something that would be nice is having an official from Creamware helping us out, since they have the link for planet z on their site for support, its the least they can do, to give a helping hand as an official figurehead on this forum. On the Korg forums they have a representative from Korg USA.

Looking at Creamwares page, it appears they can't afford an IT guy to keep the registration server going
I'm not sure what to think about that.....
Nothing good, that's for sure.
