There was talk at one stage about Creamware implementing the HUI protocol for automation in SCOPE. But nothing has eventuated at this stage. I had a meeting with a guy in Sydney last Saturday and in case I got there early I brought along a white paper to read about a console he had "some" involvement. I did get there early so started reading about this console. It doesn't do audio, it's just a control surface. Oh just another control surface ho-hum. As I read though, I started getting more and more excited about it though. This is no ordinary control surface. Then we started talking about how he has one at home (turns out he is the inventor of the console) and how he's being using it on projects using Nuendo as the mixing engine.
He was talking about not being able to do side-chaining in Nuendo without some sort of elaborate work around which still doesn't achieve excactly what he wants. I then proceeded to tell him about how I work with Nuendo as a tape deck and mix entirely within scope so side chaining is easy as. He was surprised that I didn't mix within Nuendo and then I explained that I found scope to have more "air/space" and it seemed easier to get a better sounding mix. I then told him a bit more about scope and I could see he was getting very excited about it. But then it came down to the question "what automation does scope use?". I then had to tell him the bad news "midi". Well what a dissapointment. He needs to work with his SmartAV console which supports quite a range of protocols including HUI. But scope only does midi.
So I'll send a mail off to Creamware just to give them a bit of heads up about this console and hopefully they'll start to take automation a little more seriously at least in there next generation cards if they ever eventuate. What a combination these two components would be.

That would be awesome. Just yesterday I started thinking about how I want to re-arrange this room and build out an eventual (hopefully) not-in-my-house studio centered around CW vs. PT. The big question I have is, knowing that the CW mixer is "at least" midi automatable, what control surfaces are being used now? Unfortunatley the only control surfaces I've seen or own are relatively small. I'd like something as large as and as built like a tank as a 32 or 48 channel regular console, but it wouldn't need to do any actual mixing, just be a virtual control.
Sounds like your associate's idea might be good for a lot of things, since so many people are all in the box now. Hopefully CW will respond positively. However, at least for the moment let's be glad that the mixers are midi accessible. There are some software mixing environments which are decidedly static. (Emu PatchMix, and if I remember correclty my MOTU 828mk2 had no remote control.)
