Sampling....

Okay, I bought the propack when Pulsar 3 came out, which came with the nice STS3000 sampler of course. Now just about every single musician is going on about how important sampling is to them but I must admit I haven't really used the STS a lot yet.
So I guess my question is: How does everybody here go about their sampling, should I just flip through my cd collection in search of sounds, maybe sample from video's/tv? Buy a load of sample cd's (expensive) or download from the net (expensive too). What are the benefits of usign the STS over just dropping the samples on an audio track in Cubase (which is how I usually do it).
All tips/suggestions are very welcome to this sampling newbie

1. Using a sampler you can make play notes out of any sample(you have one note sampled and can transpose it in real time, or using your keyboard's pitchbender - pitich the sample)

2. Samplers (including your STS) have filters onboard - it is easier to use them than any plugin filter in cubase

3. Samplers (incl. STS) have loop possibilities - can be used straight on or very creatively.

4. It's easier to use sampler to prepare a drum track from scratch (each drum sampled separately: a bass drum, a snare etc.) than copy-paste all the stuff in cubase.

5. There are more benefits of using samplers - the above are the ones I reminded in a few minutes
