Alrighty then!!!

I have been in the process o recabling my studio and doing some major maintenance. Tonight I started playing back some audio with the Creamware hardware for the first time. I am absolutely floored by the quality of the onboard FX in this system.

I've been at this long enough to be pretty jaded and I've seen a lot of big hype that didn't come close to measuring up. So far, and I'm not too far into it, but "so far" I'm very impressed.

It's worth the price of admission just for the reverbs, IMHO. I have some pretty decent hardware units here.....Lexi PCM 91, Quantec Yardstick, Roland R-880, Sony DPS V77 are my *go to* units ......I've been using the Quantec for many years and it really is a "Yardstick" by which to measure other reverbs IMHO. I'd say that the Masterverb Classic is in the same general league with these hardware units as far as quality and "vibe". The PsyQ and the Optimaster are amazing as well.

A happy surprise. I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting this. I'm looking forward to getting further into this over the weekend.

how the heck did you end up with a scope system then? You got it without knowing of its true potential? Anyway, hope you enjoy learning its ins and outs, now that you've started to mess with it. :-)

I was persuaded by a friend of mine and member of this forum. Bought two Scope II cards (Plus plate and ADAT plate) totally sight unseen/unheard. I'll probably buy another one too  I've been using RME hardware for years and I was just sorta sick of jacking around with that cryptic Totalmix routing scenario. When I DL'ed the manuals and started looking at the modular routings, they just made sense to me pretty quickly.Garyb gave me a hand with some elementary basics by phone last weekend and the lights came on. I have been using this system routing tracks via ADAT through my Paris system tonight with no audible latency. The Vinco is pretty nice, though I'm used to the UAD-1 plugins and it's going to take a little getting used to in order to get the UA vibe, but I think it's possible to get very close. I didn't expect it to be an exact replica of anything in particular anyway. I don't expect software to sound like hardware. That's why I was sorta' shocked by the reverbs....but then again, the DSP chips on the Creamware card are "hardware". Paris is my mix platform. I love it's big, open mix bus. Creamware will supplement it as an FX processor and then some, I'm sure.

Pleasant surprises are always good. :D I've been using CreamWare DSP system since the original Pulsar came out back in the last millenium sometime and to this day, I find new things about it.
I originally got into Pulsar because I needed a multi-I/O soundcard at the time. And now I can't believe it has lasted me as long as it has. I mean, I've added a few more DSP's to the bundle but still, the sound quality is impeckable! Just to put things in perspective, Yamaha DSP Factory, Event Electronics' Layla & Gadget Labs' Wave/8-24 were some of the choices I'd considered...boy, am I glad I went with Pulsar! 8)
