I need some help from Dynatube users

Post by rodos1979 »

Hello to all! :)

I am considering for some time to buy Dynatube but I cannot make the decision as I have not tried it ever (there are no demos anymore :().
So, I thought to post a small sample of a recording with my guitar and ask you kind people to pass it through your Dynatube and post it back to me, so that I can decide if I like it or not. I hope I am not asking too much...

The sample is in MP3 format, mono 128kbps. It is one of my electric guitars (a fretless) and I have recorded a small phrase using the three different pickup selector's positions: bridge, middle and neck.

I am mostly interested in clean sounds. I ask you if you could pass it through whichever Dynatube amp and with whichever settings you think appropriate (sound better to your ears) and post it back. The file should be in MP3 format, either mono 128kbps or stereo 256kbps.

Thank you in advance for your time and help! :)

Hello! :)

Any files yet? :P

Yesterday, I were in a recording studio and played a bit of my electric fretless through an Engl amplifier (cant remember which model).. It sounded fantastic! I used the neck pickup and turned the tone to 6-7. Very sweet and warm sound.
I wonder how it sounds through Dynatube!

P.S. My guitar has Seymour Duncan 59 Humbuckers and in the sample I posted the Volume and Tones Controls are set to 10.

Here's my attempt at patching your guitar through Dynatube.

Sound Forge > Dynatube FL ('Clean Fat' preset) > VDAT @ 44.1kHz 16 Bit > Sound Forge

I didn't adjust any gain setting at all. So everything's as set by the CreamWare preset.
Let me know what you think. Maybe I'll try some other amp models too. Cross your fingers :P

Hello kyunghwee and thank you very much for your help! :)

Which of the Dynatube amps is that? You write FM, do you mean FT (the Fender Twin Reverb) or JM (the Marshall JCM800)?

The sound is not bad, or may be quite good, but it is more distorted than what I like. I prefer a more jazzy or clean sound. What strikes me too is the amount of noise..
Could you have another try please if it is not too much of a trouble? Try to make a jazzier/cleaner sound using the FT or the VX, and tweak some settings if you like too.

Thank you very much for your help! :D

Just a comment:
I find this to be a strange experiment. I need the feel of the amped sound when I play. The sound of the amp affects my playing. Therefor my fingers react differently if I go direct clean to "tape" or through an amp. Therefor I will never get the same result by adding an amp to something, that I played clean.

Hello! :)

For me, Immanuel, is more or less the same. I play with a clean sound and the thing that affects the most my playing is the amount and type of delay/reverb and not the eq of the amp.

Anyway, I bought the Dynatube with the 50% offer... I am not impressed with the raw sound of it... But with other effects, equalization and reverbation (P100) I get quite usable sounds out of it.. But still I have not played enough with it...

Thanks to all :)

P.S. Does anybody have any good recording chains to share? (amp/effects/reverb)

Hello! :)

Erminardi, thank you very much for your time to make this comparison! I haven't got Amplitube, but I bought Dynatube and after a lot of tweaking and good use of Vinco DT, PEQ4, and other effects I can get quite good sounds that I am happy with.. But it takes time... :)

imho that is quite normal, after all you play a real instrument with it's own characteristics, some of which you probably want to find represented in the recording in a certain way - you may get a 'good' sound out of the box immediately, but that's most likely not 'your' sound.

I'd really like to compare the Dynatube to Celmo's Guitar/Bass amp (one day) - I must admit that I underestimated the latter for quite some time, but the more I use it, the more convincing it is, in particular it's tasty 'standard FX' section - covers almost 90% of the cases (for me) - the rest is just icing on the cake.

cheers, Tom
