Maybe the best solution could be a midi device that allows microtuning for incoming MIDI standard scale signal. On 2006-10-18 08:31, Johannis wrote:
I would realy like to see this synth having the same pitch manipulation as the FM7.
I use the FM7 alot for the sole purpose of its pitch adjustments which allows me to create different Middle-East, Arab.. scales.
I've suggested in the Dev. wish list many times about developing a device for microtuning any of CW synths but I guess its not a popular demand.
I hate not being able to apply CW synths in some projects because no microtonic scales are possible.
So I compramise CW synths for vst synths because microtuning is possible.
If it is possible to include microtuning please do.

I'am Benoist Guitton so I'll try to answer some questions as best as I can
Microtuning ? I hope CWA will do something in the future but as for now ... this request is unfortunately too marginal, in the native world the lobbying seemed to pay rather well so I hope it will spread ...
For DX sysex ports, I'am afraid there's no solutions other than clumsy not faithful 100 % manual ports, also due to differences in specs ...
I own a FS1R which is 80 % old DX series presets " best of " so I will focus on " presets that matters " ports
Since I own a FS1R which is rather widely considered as an apex in FM why should I ask for more ?
The FS1R is cluttered by a billion of non vital parameters, even with the vital free PC / Mac editor, it's no small cheese !
So this FM synth in the making is designed as best as possible as a powerful " FM for dummies " and I'll be always a dummy in the front of FM synthesis very **huge** possibilities !
None other than pure virgin sine waves should be badly hurt in this synth, otherwise white noise may pop up too soon ...
As for those who care about SOUND at large, with added value of nice monitors I think you'll have plenty of glass / wall / mind shattering experiences !!!

could you elaborate?

Hello John,
just like to apologise for not getting back to you, to thank you for helping me out with the Rd modules.
What happen was that I got it working and I started checking out the sounds so I sort of... well..lost track of time. hehe
You could say it was your fault for having such amazing stuff. lol
Anyway THANK YOU !!
As for Microtuning it would have been good if it was implemented inside your synth but an external module would be good aswell.
(if it could be made)
Anyways I can't come up with a name so far that would be worthy for your FM synth but if I do I'll send pm it to you.
keep doing what your doing, I enjoy all you work.

Would it be possible for the oscillators to have a phase distortion mode (a PWM applied to a sine waveform roughly) ? That would allow to get some filter-like effects as there is no filter included.johnbowen wrote:Hi PlanetZ readers-
Now, as for a brief description - it's got 8 FM operators and 8 multistage envelopes, 3 LFOs, a comprehensive modulation matrix, and my standard flanger/chorus and delay for effects.
Would you provide only sine waveform or a few other "simple" waveforms ?

OK, just did a few quick tests...and the U KNOW's phase control does work at audio rates! Of course, you only have saw or pulse to control, no sine...but it might still be of interest so you.johnbowen wrote:[ the only one that provides phase control is the U KNOW Oscillator. I'll have to try audio rate control signals to see how it responds.
In fact, My Orion Custom v3.0 synth has the U Know Osc, and there is the provision to modulate both phase settings of the saw and pulse waves at audio rates by using Osc 2 as a source (or even better, Env Osc 2 , which is the output of Osc 2 controlled by the Filter Envelope).
Funny, I had forgotten about that....
cheers,
John B.
p.s. you can also use the U KNOW Osc from my RD series II pack , as it provides a routing for the modulation to affect phase.
Hi,
Adern has something called phase distortion module in Flexor that should apply a phase distortion to an input signal.
I do not know if it is the same but as I just aquire Flexor because of winter specials, I will make a small attempt with a sine osc connected to this module and see what the result is...
With triangle waveform and phase distortion, you can achieve any waveform from saw to inverted saw.
With square waveform and phase distortion you can produce the well-known PWM oscillator modulation effect.
These are the first 2 waveforms of the CASIO Phase Distortion (2 out of 8, not that bad for a start).
