how about the mastercomp, l like the design, but if major phase issues are there, i'll steer clear

now you really want to start another PHASE discussion... ?

seriously, this EQ is said TO HAVE phase issues which were overlooked during design - and after some recent discussions it's much easier to understand WHAT causes them...

cheers, Tom

Mastercomp is very good.
Want something to stand out more in your mix? Mastercomp is the answer.

absolutely right - and no phase problems at all
I just verified it with a real mean source:
a mono analog drumbox from the 70s (?) - a deep, mellow kick, sharp clicks and bright hi-hat noise...
coming in -1.2dB, could squeeze an extra 3db easily, but depending on style (and material) even 5 to 6 might be acceptable - the distortion isn't that bad on a drumloop...
With guitar and vocal it tends to roughness when approching the limit, harshness when being there.
Kind of ringing your ears when listening longer to it, but in the first moment it's WOW... excellent for party mix...

cheers, Tom
btw it's these no-brainer tools that spoil the music - so to say...

cool, i know that others have reported its better than the L2 from waves, stw doesn't distort if you have a lite thres about -3

Correct, u can get it very loud without distortion at low release settings depending on the material though.
Myself, i dont use it on the master but as channel insert. It can do miracles for material that doesnt come out in the mix as mentioned before.

Cheers

after rereading Martins comments on the vintage eq, i think its worth getting, because its so minor if at all,...one has to be thankful for that eq if the whole passthru vintage circuitry thing is important, but in scope, if one can get a device like the type2 algorythim on it, its better and cheaper than going uad, or outboard, i'm really getting a good sound in scope now, its taken awhile, but a good tool was buying an outboard comp for the last passthru before vdat recording, it sounds pro, ..I'm just missing an analog type eq (and the soft mastercomp from stw will help), then i think i'm done purchasing for awhile (ok, maybe an Api A2D for the converters), then i'm done, thank you all

well, i like vintage eq, type 2 alg, glad i didn't spend on external there, ...mono versions for mastercomp is the way to go for mixing, otherwise with sbc, opti, brainworx ms, mastercomp at the end is too much, i also go outboard with a good comp for final touch, but i find sbc is very useful albeit unrecognized, ...question

Dynatube is next buy for sound, not just guitar, recommended?, i know martin likes it , but does it wash for sixstring, ...many tell me distortion is better outboard, via sherman filterbank or something vs. digital emulations
