This probably sounds like stating the bleedin' obvious to most of you, but came as a minor revelation when it happened by accident last night.....
to audition a long list of samples in rapid succession, simply select all, right click & go to play.
Windows media player goes through them all , one after another.
Good for finding Drum samples etc.

Works for winamp too (which is what I have set as preferred for most audio files). Also winamp has an 'enqueue in winamp' option which will append them to the end of your current files in the playlist instead of starting playback with the first one and replacing the playlist. One odd thing I've noticed with multiple selections in wavelab, and many other windows apps (photoshop) is that the item you right click on with be 'first' when added to any queue, so I make sure i click the top item in the list.

I use Winamp too, although if I'm importing something into Sonar, Sonar has a "play file" feature.

I use Sony CD Architect for this type of work. The nice thing about this program is that you can see the waveforms on a timeline and with a single mouseclick jump from sample to sample instantly, while playing - no delay at all. It works great!
Of course, it's a little more expensive than those other programs. I bought it for the CD burning and editing features.

adobe audition is great, auto plays and loops them.
fruity loops is perfect, especially for drum loop wavs, it is icredible how easily it changes the tempo of the loop without pitch changing. makes loops be played so easy in seconds. great for those who have tons of wavs from magazines. make it a try. these wavs with fruity loops work as if there were made with the application. and most of them sound much better than most drum machines. in adition you can add sounds on the whole project.
