I use Solaris 4.1 now and love it's optimizations. I now use 28 presets which give me a unique sound, my own custom synth. But we all know about limits of DSP's by now.
I use to save all projects with "0" voices, and then load up 8 voices,9,10, and so on until I hit the annoying window for Global Optimization. I would then back it down after saying "yes" to optimise, to 8 voices to avoid seeing that window, actually, I would somtimes load a patch live, and get nothing because I wasn't able to answer question to optimise, for the screen was not visible under 1000 watt PAR lamps melting the top of my head. It was a small annoyance, but as you guys know, I can't have any problems at a live gig. But I found a new way in 4.1 to avoid the ugly p[op up window, by saving the patch that uses the most DSP, and having it load on start up. Don't know why I did this, I guess I am an avid tweaker, who writes down everything. But this big DSP hog patch is loaded at startup w/ 8 voices, not 0, and my 4.1 patches load like a preset syn th,i.e. very fast. This may not be important when in a recording scenario, but live this is a godsend. I can now load any patch I want on the fly w/o worring about glitches in audio caused from DSP loading. This is so nice now. I thought it was worth sharing just in case some of you guys do a live gig. Nothing sounds as good as Solaris customized. John Bowen and CWA are my heros!!

I've solved it by cabling all s/tmd connections on my scope boards, but nice trick

DJMicron,
Please explain what you mean by cabling all S/TDM's, sounds like one of the PRO-Tools tricks my friend uses on his Accels
boards. I'm always loohking for a few more tips, as I spend no time tweaking GS3 Orchestra.

I could be wrong, but it seems like DJmicron is saying he's using 5 STDM cables between his Scope Pro (14/15 DSP boards) ?

That would be strange as DJmicron once said "i run 1 pulsar one and 2 scope srb first model, i use 1 stdm cable and i don't understand the need of 2 or more cables. Why?"

This is exactly the sort of info I had hoped to gather in this thread from a while back (which is also where the little quote come from) :???:

Well maybe I got lucky, for I use 3 cards, totalling 27 DSP, with 3 S/TDM's spanning across. Should I take 1 out? NOT!!! For some strange reason this system smokes 4 live play, so I ain't touchin' it. I recently swapped a 15 DSP from my studio rig, and put in a P4 3.4EE Northwood, so I did expect a little boost, but I wish to God that I would have bought 3 x 15 DSP's from the start. All I know is that this is a live performers dream. Using WAV Osc's in Solaris 4.1 makes each patch a different synth, with it's own stored FX and routings. I see no possible way that there is a synth out there that can do what Solaris does, and pull it off live with no stability issues. Hell my Oberheims gave me more trouble than Scope ever has.

yes shroomz,
before reading the linked thread, i did not know about the benefits of using all 5 s/tdm connections, now i have all 5 s/tdm connections (pulsar2 + 2 x scope srb) and i've solved issues like the global optimization message.

Now I'm confused  The PulsarII only has 2 STDM connectors, so how are you connecting 5? Is it only 5 connections between the 15DSP boards?

s/tdm cables can be connected to 3 boards at the same time, the 2 srb's are using 5 cables, the pulsar 2 just 2 of them

Exactamenta!! Spanning the bridge. Out of laziness I left mine connected instead of removing them, I suppose it worked out for the better. ____________

Cool, that makes sense, as I've seen a couple of people mention that they've got STDM busses set up like that. I think Wolf is one of them, but the old memory might be wrong on that.

Before I installed my ancient 15 DSP card in, I use to get a message that S/TDM 0 was not connected to S/TDM 2, but I had sufficient headroom w/ 18 DSP's, so I would optimise and that was it. Now as I mentioned I save project w/ the giant DSP hog patch. When I re-open the project with that preset saved, things just go much quicker than ever. I could add more cables, but I like things the way they are.
