just record the 24bit file as a 16bit file. it happens. or dither if you prefer, it's not that hard.

Most pro audio apps will do this job for you. It's no mystery or voodoo, just either record or render at 16bit from cubase, sonar, live or whatever. Alternatively you can keep your mixes & recordings at 24bit or whatever & render to 16bit from another app of your choice.
