Hi!

I'm thinking of buying a used Minimax ASB. It's three months old and it's only sat in a studio.
However, I have always been careful with buying a very new product (one of the first production models). There seems that there is always something wrong with those early models. Since this minimax ASB box is three months old, I would assume that it is from an early batch.
Does anyone know if there are any hardware bugs with these, or are they working 100% (compared to later ones)?

thanks!

PS: Have the software bugs (note stealing etc..) been worked out yet with updates?

Hi there!

Mine is an early model (got it in August 2005) and I didn't notice any hardware glitches. The unit is solid.
There are a few known softwares bugs, but nothing to be afraid of. I don't notice them in "normal" use...

Cheers,

Eric

My situation exactly!

Sorry to be a b*tch on this, but could someone (like Ralf, perhaps) give a history or list of known, fixed, "to-be-fixed" and "NOT-to-be-fixed" software-bugs?

This forum makes it sound as if there's a lot of bugs still. It whould be nice if someone could give a status on this.

Thanks,
Andreas

The bugs that I'm aware of and that I could confirm:

-Truncated notes with high polyphony. In some cases the Minimax ASB's polyphony is not as high as it should - instead of 12 notes it goes down to approx. 8.

-The amplitude enveloppe cannot be modulated in real time.

-The effect section generates sometimes little noises.

It's not a big deal, honestly. I would say that the unit is 99% perfect. Compared to other synthesizers (Alesis, Roland, Yamaha, Access,...), I don't think that the Minimax ASB has "a lot of bugs".

Thanks for the answers!

I was experimenting with the Minimax again (software), running it through a tube preamp - and man does it sound great. It's good to have these ASB boxes for those that don't want to deal with drifty, big and heavy minimoogs (me)...
