dualcore standard PC

I have some trouble with my new PC p4 830 Dualcore and there were some people suggesting me to change from ACPI to Standard
This is what I tried - and it seems to be impossible on my system.

1)
My first try was the simple way : changing from acpi to PC standard in WinXP, the system restarts, asking for all drivers. But then I wanted to restart but before the win start process is finished, it restarts again.

so I tried
2) a new installation of winXP (start on CD, F5 => PC Standard) some secondes later the PC restarts

So my question : is it possible to install PC Standard on a dualcore system ?

please use standrd pc mode for old mainboards only! (<775)
