What is the difference between the 14 & 15 dsp carrd?
Thanx Garyb. I don't mean to be a pain in the a$$. I just want to be very clear before I make the purchase. If I buy the CreamWare PowerPulsar Plus 15-Chip DSP Card today, brand new from Sam Ash for example. Would I get the 4.5 ver. of the software with SnS and MnM packs. Or would I be able to upgrade to that for free? It seems like it would be a better buy, if I got the extra dsp chip and saved a couple of hundred dollars. If, it comes with exactly the same software as the Scope Pro. Thank you for your help.

Just to be clear, the 15 Sharc DSP is the same as the 14 DSP Sharc - the 14 DSP card in fact has 15 DSPs. There's a bit of history attached to why it's called a 14 DSP card: when you use the card the DSP meter in SCOPE shows 14 DSPs because the 15th is used for the operating system. So many people kept asking CreamWare where the 15th DSP was that they just renamed it to 14 to try and stop the confusion - only adding to your confusion
So on that basis all you need to be sure of are the differences between the card. Which card has the right Input/Output options for you? Which has the more software for you?
You might like to email Ralf rb(at)creamware.de to make sure you'll get the new 4.5 software - i don't know if it comes standard after a certain date or if you have to pay for it. If you get it from a dealer i would assume you'd get the new software but it's worth checking.

I seem to remember that to have the right to SDK one must have a 15 DSP board. No?On 2006-02-08 11:50, alfonso wrote:What do you mean? I don't think so.... I have SDK registered on a powerpulsar, I think it should be the same with the "14dsp" ones.On 2006-02-08 10:04, paulrmartin wrote:
The difference between 14 and 15 is access to SDK.

I remember <a href=http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... forum=5>an old thread</a> in which Arcadios actually counted the chips on board - and ended with 14
maybe CWA stretched old stock a bit this way - I dunno, but it's definetely not worth making a big story of it.
let alone the (potential) risk of a several years old board versus a brand new one and the different software pacakges
cheers, Tom
