argh!!
i am mixing the new promo of my group (2 guitars, bass, drum, voice - we do a sort of hardcore rock...)
i have 11 DSP...
i loaded optimaster on the drum submix, psyQ on the rythm guitar submix, masterverb pro on the snare, early reflector fopr the drum ambience and masterverb pro for the voice (plus EQ, gate, compressors and two delays...)

THE DSP ARE NOT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i need to upgrade my CW boards!!

of course it's a matter of taste, but I'm not sure if that's an optimal application. The CWA tools ARE great and thus a constant temptation to be overused.

Imho this method inherits the risk of making the drums a 'block' within the final mix and prevents a homogenous yet 'punchy' sound on the overall track.
The drums surely sound good this way, maybe too good

The Optimaster is most likely (I have the Timeworks Master Comp) the culprit for the CPU hog, but well - it's pretty clear why...

just an idea (no better knowing), and for sure not intended to prevent you from further DSP extensions

cheers, Tom

I scorn any use of multi-band comp in my submixes/mixes aswell. Vinco does a much better job imo.

Multi-bands are for mastering imo.

I only used Optimaster in mixing once. I was mixing a demo of a group and the problem were the drums: all pieces were taken on a single stereo track and the BD was too high and without punch. At the same time the cimbals and the hihat were above all. Awful!
Optimaster was precious in this situation. The final work was nice, not optimum, but at least I could go forward with a better base.

Btw, if you per se wanne use the optimaster (or whatever) on the drumtrack, and need more DSP, why not making an audio mixtrack from it to free the DSP?
