Hey everyone. I hope someone out there can help me. I just installed Windows XP and Pulsar Version 3. After installing the drivers (from the Pro Pack CD)and installing the Version 3 software, I shut down the computer to finalize the installation. After windows starts up again, I get an installation error that says "Hardware version 30 detected. This hardware requires a software update. Please consult installation guide". One I close that box, I get another that says "could not gain access to Creamware hardware". I have no idea how to fix this problem. Can anyone here help me??

Thanks in advace,
Merlyn

Make sure your WinXP is not in Acpi mode.

Go to device manager (Winkey+pause, -> hardware). Find a branch named Computer, and under it you SHOULD have standard computer. If not, double click it and go for update driver, don't search, select standard computer.

Otherwise all your PCI cards share the same IRQ.

If this doesn't help try changing your card to another slot.

I had the same problem, and I simply updated
the drivers from the the devise manager. The new drivers are as far as I rember located in the folder into which you extracted you pulsar 3 zips.

For me, Luna/Pulsar/SCOPE all work fine in "ACPI Mode" under Windows XP

I still use Windows ME to get my work done, as XP isn't QUITE ready yet -- but at least I can watch DVDs and listen to CDs while working in XP with those CW drivers!

I am reactivating this earlier thread because I have encountered the same exact problem

"Hardware version 30 detected. This hardware requires a software update. Please consult installation guide" followed by, "could not gain access to Creamware hardware".

Installation Guide, of course, seems to say nothing about this problem that I can find.

for background, i have:

On a clean XP install, with no other apps in yet, virgin installs of 3.0 pulsar drivers and software (from CW's own CD-ROM), all appeared very straightforward, followed book to the letter.

error occurs on attempt to launch runpep on reboot, also when trying to launch Pulsar any other way.

later, installed the 3.01 drivers and app upgrade, (using downloaded files from zip drive on different PC, copied to HD)

same error

Pulsar app and all folders appear in order, installed to on Logical FAT32 partition D:, (same drive as C: for OS)

drivers for both cards (from Win2K folders in V3, and then 3.01) show up normally in dev mngr as version 1.50.0.0

Pulsar.exe properties shows version 1.0.0.1

C: and D: both previously reformated pre-install, so no old version entries could possibly exist anywhere on this setup

ACPI was disabled at beginning of XP install (this forum has seen success and problems with this option either way, it seems)

CUSL2, 512, bios v1002, Matrox dual on AGP, IBM 14.5G on one onboard channel, plex 12/10/32 on other, 2x30G IBMs on Promise Fastrack100 on slot 3, (I forget what IRQ, but not conflicting with anything).

CW cards (P2 and Luna) are in slots 2 and 6, respectively. both on IRQ4, with no conflicts on this IRQ or any other.

my only thought is that my CW card physical order (powersampler (luna) in lower slot than PII, because things fit better that way) is somehow causing system to take Luna as primary, and it is looking for Luna 3.0 software, ignoring my Pulsar3 software. I recall other posts explaining how to reverse the card hierarchy with an entry to sys.ini or some such. I will research this and try tonight.

Meanwhile, anyone else run into this error and found the answer?

okay, okay, I posted before researching all the way

from the CW website support database, this:
---------------------------------------------
Product: Elektra, Luna, PowerSampler, Pulsar, Pulsar XTC, SCOPE /SP
Operating System: Windows 2000, Windows XP
Category: Error Messages, Frequently Asked Questions, Tips & Tricks
---
Hardware revision 30 detected

This error is mainly restricted to Windows 2000 or XP. Probably the card would work fine under another OS.

There are different workarounds for this problem:

1) Do not run Win2K/XP in the ACPI mode, but in the Standard PC mode (and possibly assign new IRQs in the BIOS)
2) Disable "PNP OS" in the BIOS.
3) Reinstall the driver from the directory Pulsar3Driverwin2k of your HD.
4) Try another PCI slot for the card.
---------------------------------------------

Okay,

1) I am already in Standard PC Mode, and have several IRQs forced in BIOS, no conflict for CW boards, or anywhere else.

2) Will try "Disable PnP OS" BIOS setting tonight

3) Sounds strange, but easy to try

4) Last resort, will try the soft assignment of card order as mentioned above first.

Watch here for results !! Still hopeful for suggestions or experience.

It's absolutely without a doubt the "PnP" in the BIOS setting.

so right Sub, (and Merlyn60 in side response) that did the trick !

now I've got Pulsar starting fine, but it locks up very easily (mouse still moves in pulsar, and cursor changes correctly over modules versus background, but no click response at all, either menus or module controls - only way out is to kill pulsar in task manager and restart).

Can't yet identify a specifc series of actions causing this. Suspect the fix will be in other XP or bios settings, so its more tweaking and experimenting!

Want to get Pulsar stablised under XP before bringing Cubase 5.1 into the picture.

Still, initial impression of XP, as with others here, is quite good. I know all Win9X family and NT4.0 well, but not Win2K. This XP is well designed, emminently tweakable, but robustly laid out controls. So far, so good - but Gawd !!! its all so complex !!!

To infinity and beyond!!!
