Joystick controllers

I just bought a joystick to control Vectron's XY (*and other synths with an XY pad). However all the free software I've been able to find that sends midi data from a Joystick seems to be 16 bit and won't run on my system. Does anyone know of a reliable way to use a Joystick with synths like Vectron and a keyboard input at the same time?

I've found one called VMidi joy that I've been able to install but it doesn't seem to do anything. I'm not sure how to set it up to work with Vectron's XY pad - all I want is for it to move the cursor instead of me having to use a mouse to do it.
