Is it possible to mix 8 individual stereo mixes for monitoring (to headphones). Each monitor mix must be able to adjust the level of the channel (like the mixing tool of RME audio http://www.rme-audio.com/english/techin ... tmsoft.htm). Is there a dedicated monitor mixer available? Or is this possible with the STM 2448 mixer. Is it possible to use a dedicated mixer in conjunction with the STM2448 mixer (route the output of a channel to a new mixer)? I’m new to this stuff I thinking of buying a CW DSP card..... (THX)

Hoi Jan,

The STM2448 has the option of sending any of 24 (mono or stereo) tracks with volume and pan setting per channel to a Monitor channel, that has its own output. The same could be achieved by using a couple smaller mixers.

Yes, all 24 channels can send to both the mix bus and the monitor bus (all with separate volume/pan controls) or to one or the other. It's very flexible.

There's also my own mixer, Route Jr., that has six (!) different bus outputs. You can have several monitor mixes if you like.

Is it possible to use several mixer at the same time? Where does the routing happening to each mixer? Let say for each monitor mix a dedicated mixer (like eg the micromixer)? What is micro mixer? I can’t find I thing on the website of Creamware about it.

You can use any number of mixers you want, up to the amount your card can support. This is usually something you have to test experimentally, since it varies with the number of DSP you have, and which mixer you use. If you don't use too much processing and use simpler mixers, you can get alot of them going at the same time.

Each mixer is graphically represented by a big rectangle, with input and output pads. You simply connect the inputs and outputs however you want. You also have your physical i/o represented, and the ASIO channels going to your sequencer.

MicroMixer was a small minimal mixer that came with earlier version of the environement. The smallest mixer it comes with now is DynaMixer, I think. There is also the wonderful mega micro mix, available here:

Jan, the manual has full size screenshots and in depth mixer explanations...

I was thinking about the manual being the only decent resource of pictures, so I took some screenshots of a couple mixers last nite. Will have to edit some before I put them online though.

They have that "example" page on their Web site showing how different modules connect together, don't they?

No, DynaMixer was an old thing that came with the old Pulsar 1 and 2 software. Currently, for smaller mixers, they have Micromixer, which is just a volume and pan mixer, and they also have DynamicMixer, which has insert slots in addition to volume and pan. I never use it, however.

Yes, how many mixers you can run at the same time depends on your DSPs and how many effects you're running at the same time. Scope Home was designed to run a single mixer and some effects, but if you want really fancy configurations you might want to opt for Scope Project. Whichever card you get, you most certainly can run multiple mixers at the same time and hook them up together any way you please.
