Mouse (USB port?) creating noise

I hear an very faint humming/buzzing sound on the pulsar Analog outs, which is a bit louder when I'm moving the mouse. The sound completely disappears when I unplug the mouse, and it is always there regardless of which port I plug my USB mouse into. It appears as soon as I plug the mouse in. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

System is PIII 700Mhz, Pulsar (3.0 software), Asus CUSL2, what else ya need to know?

And my mouse is a microsoft optical deal.

does direct x 8 cause this problem?
