i know i havent been too involved on this forum the last year(or ever...?). but this is the only forum i feel im a part off,( whenever im online i always catch up on whats going on here at planetz). so i would like to share something with you. iv had quit a miserable time lately, not much going my way ( i guess we all been there )(ohhooh alot of ()). anyway, so tonight i was home by myself getting drunk on whiskey and coke and smoking too many cigarettes, and then out of the blue i got a call from a band i really admire. they told me they have started doing an old song off mine live and they would like too put it on their new record so they needed me to fill out some copyright forms( is that the right word??). so now im drunk and happy as hell and i wanted to share this with all the great musicians and producers at planetz.
ps: the bass player in the band is an old friend of mine, but i hope this hasent anything to do with them playing my song ( off course it has. again wiyh the ()),

drunk lonely but happy
the coke on the whiskey is definety hard stuff...
and a good cigar will improve smoking pleasure a lot - I suggest a small Macanudo 'Caviar Cafee' for starting
even if the bass player is a friend they wouldn't want to make idiots of them just for your convenience - that song must have something then
congrats and thanks for sharing, Tom

@thermos : things always get better. sounds like this may be another start for you (link to your old friend). coming through tough times makes you stronger. one thing I would say is use the drinking and smoking in moderation more for pleasure rather than comfort!!! you still have things to do in your lifetime!
I, too, have just been through a dodgy patch feeling like I had no direction. So I made a decision about what I really want to do and now I am pushing hard to try and make things happen. only time will tell. in the meantime the decisions I have made will keep me going until the next time. oh yes, it's crap but I know I will go through it again at some stage. c'est la vie.
@Alfonso : I'm curious... you just said something that has, in a roundabout way, been said to me....
As a DJ, I have been told being as sensitive guy gives me my "talent"???? On saying sometimes I can "feel the mood" of people when I am DJing, I have been told that there is a link between the two. I am still working out how I can apply this to my making music which is why I ask the question....
How is it a good thing for a musician to be sensitive?
I am also a insecure person and a perfectionist which doesn't help with the making music side of things - mix the two and you have someone that is never completely happy with what they produce. it's a vicious circle! (a cry for help maybe? lol)

Personally, I feel that things like Coke and ice get in the way.
At least that way the whiskey meets the moment. So if things aren't going quite right, you feel the sting of some Jack or Jim Beam. But when things are going smoothly, it's Basil Hayden's and Maker's Mark... or perhaps a little Blanton's if the sun is really shining.
Thermos. Go for a walk. Deep breaths. One step after the other, one day at a time.
Clincal depression (bi-polar and seasonal affective on either parents side respectively) runs in my family. Being depressed is very much like being high/drunk. The more you let yourself sink into it, the more it takes you over.
Whether this is a sign or not, just keeping going will make it easier to keep going some more. And once you're above water (even if only for a short while) new songs seem to materialize as all your emotions have built and are releasing. More songs can lead to more group work like what you've got on the table.
Hope that didn't sound patrinizing. Everyone gets down in it. <i>"I was up above it..."</i>
Peace,
Sam
