- Topic: Top 10 Synths and/or Effects for Pulsar

This is hard because the ones I use in songs aren't always the same as the ones I like to muck around on. Putting this together made me realise how rich the choices are. I must use about 25 synths and picking these 10 meant excluding such beauties as Thrust, Freakmod, Neutron Micro, not to mention a...

I agree with King of Snake. I only have a 500Mhz PII and I have no problem with the speed of the interface, even when running a medium-sized Cubase project. I love the quality of the interface and much prefer spending time looking at it than most other music software. What's more, PCs are getting mo...

I have the Control Freak SE with 4 programmes set up - 1 mixer programme and 3 synth programmes. I have three groups of synths (Bass synths, Pad Synths and Lead Synths), each group being set up to be controlled by either the 1st (controllers 17-32), 2nd (33-48)or 3rd (49-64). This works great, but r...

Surely, rather than create a new program, you just create a new keygroup within the same program with the required velocity settings. Then, if you need to adjust envelope or filter settings, make sure you have 'edit all' selected. A have loads of programmes with up to ten velocity settings, all maki...

A simple synth but oh so effective. You can get some great arp sounds by putting the cut off near zero and the resonance near 10 and filter velocity sensitivity at max. This gives a lovely atonal variation to passages. By adjusting the waveforms and the distortion you can go from breathy to biting. ...

I use The Ultimate Piano Collection Akai CD Rom. This has 64MB samples of Steinway and Faziola (I'd never heard of this one but it's a lovely piano), multisampled and velocity switching (only one switch but still very realistic). They are the best piano samples I've ever used (including the Giga one...
