Zarg's Ambient and Rotor48 are very good for pads/ambient doodling but are heavy on your DSP (and wallet). I've only tried the demos as I've splashed out on a Scope SRB and have no money left for synths, but the Ambient is the next big purchase I intend making.

I just downloaded the v3 version of STS 3000 from My Page at Creamware to see if it cures any of my problems (no keyrange pitch tracking etc.), but when I load it into Pulsar v3.01 it says it can't find DSP file "S3K Master Mixer". A DSP file comes with the download but it's called somethi...

I have Pulsar2 and PowerSampler so that's 9 DSPs, but if I was buying now I would definitely get PowerPulsar; in fact I've just ordered the Scope SRB which is an additional 15 DSPs so I'm hoping to run 21 to 24 DSPs if I decide to keep the PowerSampler board. Also worth considering is whether to go ...

BOT (Back On Topic), I've been thinking of getting the Focusrite Penta, mainly for vocal recording but also as a neater way of getting all my external gear into Pulsar (it has an SPDIF out). They're not that expensive, have stereo inputs as well as the mic inputs, so stereo synth sounds aren't a pro...

I had this problem with v3.01 for Mac. Are you using SFP3.1? The only way I could resolve this was to reload the mixer, which if you're halfway through a project could be very boring if you've got lots of settings you want.

I'm slightly confused as to what you're doing but here goes. If you look in Cubase at your VST ASIO inputs there should be only one input which says In Creamware 1&2 to the left of the green button, and In 1L & In 1R to the right of it. This is a stereo pair for ASIO1, so ASIO2 will not have...

I always record at 24 bits, 44.1kHz. If most of your work will end up on CD then dithering 24 bits to 16 is cool (if you track carefully then recording 24 bits will give you a better dynamic range for your master 16 bit version) but I would try and avoid 48 to 44.1 conversion if possible. Honestly, ...

To be honest I (and many others) have found the Pulsar's midi to not be great. Certainly try it, but the Midex is designed to run with VST5.1 using what they call LTB which basically keeps the midi timing tighter if you use it via USB (and with 5.1 software). Without USB you get 'regular' midi timin...

Had all sorts of errors when loading then realised you had probably used SFP3.1 whereas I'm on v3.01 for Mac (G4). However the GUI actually loaded fine. Don't know if using XTC might have an effect as us Mac user don't have it. TonyR ps. It looks like quite a cool synth so how about a 'cooler' name,...

borg, Blimey dunno what to suggest. Sounds like a reformat is in order. Also from various sources here I would suggest the following: Before any software reinstallation try physically reseating the Pulsar board in the PCI slot to make sure you're getting a good connection. Use Mac OS9.2.2 After you ...

Musquash, do you mean physically put the I/Os on the SRB from your Pulsar2? I think not. The SRB is 15 Sharc DSPs and that's it. Nothing on the plate. Once you connect the SRB to your Pulsar2 card via the S/TDM cable (remember to get one now otherwise you'll be very frustrated) and launch the Pulsar...

May's issue of Future Music has a feature on The Black Dog whose kit list includes TripleDat and Pulsar cards (I'm thinking Pulsar2 as he mentions the sampler's timestretching - STS5000 methinks, too big for Pulsar1?). I would like to see continous pitch controls on the pitch step sequencer. Most old modular step sequencers didn't have semitone steps but continous knobs. As we're not working with MIDI notes here, just pitch, you could happily tune each step of your sequence randomly or to some exotic scale (a freq...

I'm Mac based so this may not be relevant. I also had 'nil reference' problems on my STS3000 when I upgraded to V3.01. In 2.04a I never had a problem with the cset.ini, but in 2.01 and 3.01 it seems to often become corrupted. You can find the cset.ini in Pulsar3:app:Bin.
