"nil reference or dispatch == NULL on left side of `.` "

This message appears on my screen when starting Luna-software (2.5).

What does it mean?

What can I do?

Another problem:

Sometimes the software starts even faultless.
But sometimes there is no audio-output, although the levelmeters in the mixer are active still / as usual.

Same questions as above.

Thanx and greetings from
Grabie.

Try reinstalling the Luna software, after you close Luna completely, including the Tray icon. Report back...

New installation:

This is what I want to avoid.

I had that message from the beginning. (remeber my problems with 2nd soundcard?)

Still the audio-silence makes me wonder, too.
Working levelmeters, though!

...just sometimes - every 5th 'til 10th time (!)

New installation is a mess when you want to be creative.

Especially when you just do not know why !

More answers to questions in first message are seriously welcome.

Give thanx,
Grabie.

Sounds like something got messed up in the Luna software. Reinstalling takes about 2 minutes (it would be fine to just install directly over the top of your current install, I think), the only change you'll have to make is to your default project/background project, and directories, I think everything else is saved. I have done this before (recently) when I had some bizarre thing happen with no after side effects besides the aforementioned.

If it helps, I've seen this a couple times with Pulsar but not for nearly a year. Usually a reboot fixed it, and it usually happened after leaving the machine on for a couple weeks without rebooting, and Logic open during that time too.

The "Nil" thing usually appears when you make an invalid connection between devices or something that didn't make sense. This could mean one of your projects (Default project?) is slightly corrupted.

The nill proplem has not appeared for the last two days. It does not come up regulary.

I did not change the settings before/ can not find a wrong setting/device!
The fault was there from beginning - mentioned in this forum before.

That is why I did not make a new installation yet.

The audio problem (no sound - but levels)
is well known by other users: Look at creamware forum when you can... (I do not like that registration-mess on that site!)

Thank you, greetings and I will let you know,
when I know more.

Don't worry, it's a harmless message, you can safely ignore. I agree, slightly annoying. Hopefully fixed with next Luna update.

Indeed slightly annoying, especially when you have it on opening of the Icon Pulsar application. So for now, I have no more background project.
I have modified my background project but even when I copy that background project from my other Pulsar pc, I get the error.
So there's no fault in the project.
I severerly syspect an .ini somewhere. Anyone?

The nil reference messages started to pop up in my Pulsar setup after I changed properties of the Bigmixer device. It appears when I set midicontrolers for channels or buttons and save the device in the new state or preset. It seems channel linking is involved as well, but it's hard to pin down the cause. Try to start with an empty project. Then add a device, save, load that newly created project. Repeat this until the message starts to appear. Then replace the trouble causing device with a original version and see if the errormessage disapears. Then see how far you can change the device (adding midi automation) until the message reappear.

Regards,

Marc

I get this message (nil reference...) too from time to time and I'm using a LunaII os v2.5.
But I didn't thought it would have anything to do with my Luna since the installation was just fine.

What I'm wondering is , couldn't it have something to do with the motherboard? because I never got this message on my older pc which was an Intel. Now I'm using an AMD 1.4 on an Abit KG7 Raid.
I thought it could have something to do with the Via chipset on the MB or with the Raid controller onboard.

Anyway the message doesn't seem to affect anything so I guess it's indeed a small bug ,probably a combination of a Luna driver having problems with one of the hardware elements on your MB.
