according to you, what is the best pulsar synth to get a string sound, that sound as much "real" as possible?
(ok, forget samples, i'd like to use a synth! )

Very difficult question, coz' a synth is not strings

The new Prisma bank has a few that sound reasonably good at solo strings - for a synth

The best synth strings I've heard is Absynth - again for scraping solo sounds.

Sonic Reality's Symphony Strings VSTi sample module is supposed to be good, but obviously not synthesised.

I like the good old Blue Synth for strings - if you push it up with chorus, delay and reverb it may sound really fat and astonishing naturally.

For real strings only samples will do, no synth will recreate the real feel. I don't know why you ask for a synth, I guess what you want is fundamentally a good string sound, it doesnt matter where does it come from.

How bout finding a violinist, cellist, or dbl-bassist (upright)? They tend to scream when run through oscillators, but you might get some good takes out of them before that happens.

All joking aside, there's really no substitute for a real set of strings. I'm trying to teach myself the cello for that very reason. It's pretty hard, but after 2 years, I'm pretty close to being able to lay down tracks without making my neighbors putting cotton in their ears.

Not a short term solution for sure, but the performance is what makes music passionate anyway (IMO). And short term input only gives you short term output.

Funny! I've been thinking of buying a violin for the exact same reason!

It's really worth it. I got this cello that was made in China for $400 used. It sounds fine, and much like guitars, it's better to break yourself in on a piece of crap, that way when you move on to something nicer, you'll have learned how to make something not so nice sound good, and from there make something good sound amazing.

Ahhh... if only I had a patron. I could literally spend all day playing on instruments. Trumpet's next. On second thought, I should spend more time with Ambient first.

You've kinda answered your own question -real strings require real strings - garitian etc won't disapoint - they are real samples, well recorded that sit like real strings.
