i'm gonna buy a luna II soon but i'm wondering how i'd connect it to be able to monitor via headphones?

i'm considering buying this mixer http://www.digitalvillage.co.uk/dv/apro ... p?id3=4540 to go with it (UB502) it has tape inputs that can be assigned to headphones

the question is

1. will this compromise the sound quality?
2. the outputs of the luna is rca right? are there any rca to 1/4" jacks? or what? how do i actually connect the output to the mixer?

thanks for all the answers :smile:

any other recommendations will be greatly appreciated

First, output of Luna is 1/4" stereo jack

For the small behringer mixer, i don't really know if it will degrade signal, maybe a bit, but it will certainly not enhance it :wink:

Well, anyway, for headphones, shouldn't be that problematic, but for monitoring on speakers, if you play at high volume, i bet you'll hear hiss or similar artifacts.

i use a similar, but "bigger" mixer (mx 602A).
It's not expensive at all and it provides, besides more channels, "CTRL ROOM OUT" connectors.

So far i haven't experienced any problems with it as to sound and reliability.

i got it connected like this:
Mixer MAIN OUT (2 x 1/4" mono jacks) -> Luna2 IN (1/4" stereo jack).
Luna2 OUT (1/4" stereo jack) -> Mixer TAPE IN (2 x rca).
Mixer CTRL ROOM OUT -> active speakers.
In Your case: Mixer PHONES -> headphones.
make sure you press down the "2 tk to ctrl room" -button.
this way you use the mixers MAIN to feed signal into Luna2 and the CTRL ROOM/HEADPHONES pot for monitoring.

Cables you need are:
2 mono 1/4" jacks -> 1 stereo 1/4" jack.
1 stereo 1/4" jack -> 2 x rca.

good luck!

i looked at the mixer closely again and it actually has RCA tape in that can be assinged to headphone only!!!

and i think i'll go for the pulsar 2 now (rca outputs right?)

but anyway thanks for all the answers :smile:

well..pulsar 2 CLASSIC = rca in/rca out. (+ a bunch of digital I/O's).
there are other models which has balanced I/O's (cannon).
better go for both Luna2 and Pulsar2, them darn dsp's are sooo addictive! :wink:

it's no problem adapting from stereo 1/4" to dual rca.the adaptors are readily available in the local electronics shop.really, it's no big deal.

more dsps and synths w/ the pulsar card are worth the money though.(not to mention the additional i/o)
